People who tend to download and upload files on a regular basis often turn to download management programs to help streamline the process. Download management programs allow users to download files faster than they can with the normal download programs that their browsers provide. Normally the increase in download speed is about 100%, but it can be as much as 400% in ideal conditions. Though the increased availability of DSL and cable Internet has greatly decreased download times for those who are able to use these types of connections, some people still like to use the download management programs. Not only do they provide more speed for downloading, but they can also help you to manage your downloaded files and can keep you from losing downloads when you have Internet problems.

Flashget is a download management program that has been around for a few years. One of the things that attract people to this program is that it is free; a price that always warrants a second look. Unfortunately, the old adage you get what you pay for may hold true with Flashget. At the outset this download management program does what it's supposed ...
... to do. It downloads files faster than the regular browser download programs and it lets you schedule downloads as well. Problems occur, however, when users try to do certain things with the program's features. Though it is supposed to be able to let you download quite a few files at once, it tends to get bogged down if you try to do more than two or three at a time. It also is supposed to pick downloads back up when coming back online after a connection interruption, but users have found that a significant amount of the time it can't seem to do this.

One of the better download management programs, in fact the one that is the most popular among users, is Download Acclerator Plus. Though this program promises the same things that Flashget does, the difference is that it actually delivers. There is a fee for the full-featured program, but you get your money's worth and more. Whether you are on a dial-up connection or a broadband connection you will get faster downloads with Download Accelerator Plus, and you will be able to download several files at once without a problem. It consistently picks up right where it left off with downloads after a connection interruption, which can be a real relief for people with unreliable dial-up.

If you really don't have the money to spend on a download management program then Flashget can at least give you faster downloads, as long as you don't try to do too many at once. For a reasonable fee, however, Download Accelerator Plus can give you consistent download strength and reliability, which is always better in the long run. The program has a free version that you can try out, but if you want everything that it has to offer then it's best to pay for the upgrade. Very rarely is anyone sorry when they do.
Flashget is a download management tool. It has been reported by users that their software contains viruses. There are alternatives and I've written about them in conjunction with a full Flashget review.
