Methods To Protect Your Oil Painting From Dust And Harm
The paintings are an attempt to come to terms with life and there is a different joy in appreciating art and displaying it. So many home owners love to have oil paintings on the walls of their halls and living rooms. An oil canvas hanging in the aisles of the house completes the serenity of the place. Thus, it is very necessary that the sheen of the art doesn’t fade away.
Oil paintings are very fragile and get damaged by the light, humidity and dust. To prevent them from dust, they required a necessary care like routine cleaning, using Plexiglas and other techniques. Thus, one should not only correctly display Interior Wall Paintings, but also regularly inspect them that the environment is not harming them.
The surface of the painting is most exposed part and prone to get damaged by the outside environmental factors. Even a small effect on the surface can adversely deteriorate the entire piece. So, to protect them from damage, a clear varnish coating can be applied. The coating makes a separate layer between the painting and the surface ...
... and protects it, from being affected by dirt and dust.
Framing is the other method to keep the canvas intact. Furthermore, it can also offer a helping hand to decorate the painting’s physical appearances. The major function of the frame is to provide support. The custom designed frames can be used to improve the aesthetic appeal, as well. Choosing a frame is an art, and an ideal frame should be thick and covered the entire painting including stretcher. Shallow frame can be avoided on the front; though can work well while providing the support from the back. The use of nails on the can damage the canvas while moving and transporting it. Hence, mirror clips are the best option instead of nails and these clips allow the painting to move naturally.
Backboard is the major supportive component and also assists the picture to hang separately from the wall. Sometime the moisture from the wall transfers to the painting and disorganize the colors. The Backboard is usually made-up of acid-free cardboard and secures the painting from temperature, humidity and moisture.
Plexiglas can come handy when the canvas is displayed in the crowded and frequent visiting areas. It shields the surface and frame of painting. The oil canvas attracts dust on its surface and Plexiglas can keep it away from the dust and dirt.
Vacuum cleaning is the best method for the regular cleaning of the painting. It can remove the dirt from the back and front of the canvas. Ensure to use low-power suction and do not let the nozzle touch any part of the picture. In addition, the use of a vacuum cleaner is prohibited on the weak and frail paintings.
Most of the oil paintings are surreal and precious, and they demand proper care. The routine care halts the ageing process and restores the luster and charm of painting for a long time.
