History Of Corinthian Relating To Architect
Architecture had been a major occupation of the Corinthian era. The ancient city had always been a centre of art and has carried its legacy through the centuries. Even today, the artistic beauty of Corinthian structures is considered as a symbol of excellence possessed by ancient Greek generations.
The ornate designs carved into different stone structures, pillars and columns are some of the striking features of the Corinthian architecture which sets it apart from the rest of the architectural orders, namely, Doric or Ionic. Ancient building structures built using Corinthian columns are still considered as an icon of World Heritage. They have a beauty of their own that cannot be diminished by time. Corinthian columns were constructed in a proper scientific manner. And this made them strong enough to hold themselves for all eternity. Corinthian columns were divided into three parts and each of the parts bears a specific measurement ratio with the rest. The foundation of the column is known as the base. The base stone is ...
... the heaviest and it has a part rooted firmly into the earth. From the base rises the shaft which is the biggest part of the column.
Corinthian columns are tall and sturdy. They have a beautifully polished shaft area that often bears some decorative features like ornate creepers. However, many Corinthian columns have a plain shaft with few designs near the base or the capital area. The biggest distinctive feature of Corinthian columns was the flutings that ran along their long shafts. These shallow grooves were carved in different proportions and patterns. The continuity and dept depended on the type of stone used for building the column. The top or the crown portion of the column is known as the capital. The stone used for building the capital is also as strong and big as the base. They have beautiful carvings that composed of acanthus leaves.
Corinthian columns with their rich designs and beautiful carvings became a popular trend in the centuries that followed. They were extensively used in the Roman era to built monuments and churches of great importance. There had been some changes overtime but the basic patterns remained the same. Even today there are special architects that imitate Corinthian columns and pillars for their medial-style interior and exterior works.
If you notice, you can find finely crafted Corinthian columns and art works in many places like mansions, palaces, hotels, museums, art galleries and resorts. They are so popular that you can find them everywhere in some form or the other. After the surge of modern architecture, people have started shifting their preference to the old and the classics. Consequently, many architects and contractors are looking for artisans and craftsman who can do stone carving and thus make an attempt to imitate the legendry Corinthian styles in their own humble way.
