Fibromyalgia Syndrome is a musculoskeletal illness which causes chronic fatigue disorder. The syndrome can drastically affect sleep patterns and cause digestive disorders, aggravate chronic headaches and cause painful menstrual periods. Individuals can also experience temperature sensitivity, morning stiffness, numbness or tingling of extremities. Cognitive memory loss is one serious disorder caused by this syndrome. The name fibromyalgia stems from "fibro" in Latin. "My" in Greek means muscle, whereas "algia" means pain.  The muscle pains in patients often may feel like a pulled muscle and may cause a burning sensation or a twitch.  Because of the nature of the condition, many patients suffering from FMS have depressive tendencies. Once this syndrome is diagnosed, it is pertinent for patients to adhere to a strict diet. There are certain foods to avoid when you have fibromyalgia. The intake of carbohydrates has to be restricted totally, whereas protein intake should be well channelized ...
... to suit one body. As FMS hampers neurological condition in patients, it is preferable to avoid foods which damage nerve tissues. The following are certain pointers which individuals suffering from FMS have to follow. They have to follow a diet plan and know which foods to avoid when you have fibromyalgia.

Firstly, anything which contains Aspartame should be avoided. Aspartame is said to stimulate audio and video receptors in the body. Individuals having fibromyalgia syndrome have already experienced, sensitive responses to audio and video stimulators. Apart from the side effects of abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, intake of Aspartame attributes to several neurological defects which include loss of memory, headache, dizziness, visual disturbances, fatigue and frequent episodes of sudden changes in the mood. Problems such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, mental retardation, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases are suggested to arise due to intake of Aspartame. Patients suffering from fibromyalgia have to avoid consuming chewing gum, flavored coffee syrups, sweetened tea, fat-free yogurt products, candies and chewing gums, fruit spreads and barbeque sauces, amongst such other items containing Aspartame.

Secondly, certain nightshade vegetables such as eggplants, green peppers, tomatillos, potatoes and tomatoes, amongst certain household staples should be avoided. Although these vegetables are suggested as nutritious in normal lives, these nightshade vegetables are said to cause an allergic - type reaction to individuals having FMS. These foods are believed to aggravate neurological conditions vastly. This is why people having arthritis are not allowed to have these in their diet plan.

Thirdly, foods to avoid when you have fibromyalgia also include gluten and caffeine. Gluten is found in abundance in wheat, rye and barley. Intake of gluten can worsen neurological conditions by intensifying joint pain, tenderness, fatigue and loss of body weight. Gluten can also cause abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea and vomiting. Baked foodstuff such as cakes, pastries and breads contain gluten in abundance. This is why individuals suffering from fibromyalgia should avoid intake of baked items. Fibromyalgia also causes fatigue. Beverages high in caffeine also cause tiredness. This is why coffee, tea, chocolate drinks, dark sodas should be added to the list of foods to avoid when you have fibromyalgia. Lastly, it is mandatory for people suffering from FMS to stay away from sugary products and white bread. Daily exercise and a good lifestyle will help them much relief from the suffering caused by fibromyalgia.
