Transitioning to college is an important step in your life. Is college in your plans? Some colleges are better than others and it is important that you pick a good one. Read on to see how to pick a college that works with you.

Study as much as possible every day. Time spent on education will yield positive results in the long run. Think of college as a full-time job and attend to your social life after your obligations have been met. Excelling in college will have a dramatic, positive impact on your future.

The environment in which you study can make a world of difference. A dorm room is not usually a good place for studying. You may find it preferable to discover a locale that is quiet. The school library is always a good choice. If you can't always go to the library, then consider buying some headphones that block out noise.

Make sure you are familiar with you schedule as well as the location of your classes before school starts. Chart how much time is required to get from class to class. You should also find other critical locations and plot them on a map.

If you have a test, be sure to eat breakfast ...
... that morning. Even an apple will do. If you are hungry, you will never be able to concentrate on the exam. Therefore, it is advisable to eat a breakfast with plenty of protein to help keep your mind alert.

Get at least one of your general education requirements done and finished in your first semester. If there's one class you're really not looking forward to, but you need it to graduate, take it early so you can later focus on the classes you really like. It would be a bummer to be the token senior in a gen-ed class of freshmen four years down the road.

Take notes while in class. Note taking helps you remember information later on. You will also be a step ahead when it comes time to study for an exam. Even if you're sure you already know the information, still take the notes.

Remember that your reputation in high school did not follow you to college. You cannot rest on your laurels. You must make a new name for yourself. Remember that college is an entirely different experience than high school. Be prepared to try new things and experiences.

Most people have heard about the "freshman 15," but you can easily stay away from it if you don't overload on carbs. Avoid such things as sugary snacks and processed foods. Turn to fresh fruits and veggies and whole grain snacks and meals to keep your energy level up steadily and in a healthy way. Include a variety of food sources to ensure a balanced diet.

Every college is different. Whichever college you choose to attend will have a major impact on your life. Apply the advice from this article to ensure that your decisions on college are exactly right for you. Make good choices so you can have a good end result.
