A Little History Of The Train Washing System
Train wash machine is no joke as it does one big task and needs meticulous attention in order to be used properly. But if you’re into the railway business, this is something you have to deal with constantly as it is part of making operations run smoothly. However, did you ever wonder what the first system was and how it came about? Let’s have a look.
An electric catenary automated system comprised the first ever train washing system. It featured a one-step wash and application of chemicals. In order to clean the train’s two ends, they made use of front and back wash systems that were highly pressurized. Brush on the sides guaranteed both train sides to gleam clean. Even then, it was already equipped with an advanced system of recycling waste water as well as the elimination of solids within the said system.
The second system was intended for diesel engines and compartments. Like the first system, it also had a one-step wash and application of chemical and it still had brush modules on the side to have both sides of the train squeaky clean. This time though, it employed freshwater as its system ...
... of rinsing which consequently had all cleansing products taken out of the train.
Fast forward to many years until we come to our present time and we find railway cleaning businesses still making use of water but as it’s not as genuinely as clean and fresh as it was before, these companies make it a point to recycle and purify the water they use in their day-to-day operations.
Although you may think it’s a bit similar, the train washing system is different than washing your car. For starters, the train is a much bigger vehicle with many bigger parts. The train contains very different equipment, so train washing companies have set up their own machines that come with ways of minimizing water usage and discharge of water that is contaminated.
The process of water recycling involves the separation of water from sand and other debris using the train wash machine. To process such separation, most machines have hydro-cyclones that can break everything down to microbe degree. An ozone generator ensures the prevention of pathogens and bad malodor from emerging.
Ozone breaks down these natural substances with odors that can destroy bacteria and other pathogens. Once the treatment is finished, reuse of more than eighty-five percent of the water can be done during the whole washing procedure. Note that during the last rinse, fresh water is already employed.
Under the train washing system, the water that was not reused goes through an oil separator then into a purifier which eliminates emulsion of micro-oil and other impurities that were formed while the chemicals were used during the train wash. The water passes through even more stages for more cleaning treatment. After which, it finally comes out to be released into the drainage system, but it is already purified at a rate more than ninety-nine percent. This is just enough to reach emission standards as mandated by authorities of the environment worldwide.
