To have a good start in learning web design and web development is very important. For that you need the right guidance and the right tools.

1. It's very important to know where to start. I can tell you that, HTML and practice. A simple search on google is what you need (html tutorials). Choice one tutorial, the one that apears clear to you and has alot of example. In learning html is very important to practice, too read a chapter from the tutorial and then write some code by yourself. Choice just one tutorial and be sure it's complete. Don't stop until you finish the tutorial and try all the examples. After that you can consult other tutorials and use the google search to find what you need.

2. Now you can try to put the webpages and examples you created on a free hosting server. Use a FTP client like Filezilla. It's fast and stable and, the most important, it's free. This is the best way to see how a webpage really works.

3. The next step is CSS. You can find CSS tutorials on google as well. Don't bother to learn everything now, you'll have plenty of time later. Try harder learning how to format text, ...
... tables and div's. That's the most important.

4. With the knowledges you have in html and css you're ready to start learning Javascript. That's real programming, it's gona be harder but it's worth it. When you're able to validate a html form with javascript and to show some alert boxes, you can try using some JQuery. That's a javascript library that can help you create some animations and alot of cool effects for your webpage.

5. If you've learned already html, css and javascript you can create webpages, but this isn't enought. You got to write code everytime you want to put something new on your webpage, and this sucks! The solution is to create dinamic pages with PHP and mySQL. Start with PHP:
a. download xampp and install php server on your computer.
b. find a PHP tutorial and learn how to send information to the browser (echo, print)
c. practice with if()
d. practice with while() and for()
e. learn how to work with arrays
d. create databases and tables with php myadmin
e. learn how to connect to a database with PHP, how to insert informations from PHP to mysql database, how to put mysql table values in PHP variables.

Now, after learning what i mentioned, you have the minimum knowledge to build a dinamic website in less than a month, starting from ground zero.

If you use script and code generators and other useful tools you can make you websites better.
