Finding the inspiration to write a story book publishers will love isn't an easy task. If you know you want to write, but are struggling for story ideas, it's tempting to give up. A golden story idea could be just around the corner, however, so don't throw the towel in yet. There's no need to sit around waiting for a flash of inspiration to descend, either. There are certain steps you can take find a successful idea that will leave book publishers fighting over your work.
Finding Ideas
If you're short of ideas, the first thing to do is take a walk. Have a look around and think about the kind of thing you want to write. Do you want to create something that would interest you, or somebody else? Would you like it to be uplifting or heart-breaking? Asking as many of these questions as possible will help you focus on what you actually want to write.
Remember, there are no rules, and you're completely free to write about anything. It's your book, so don't try and write what you think book publishers want; write what you want. If you're lacking inspiration, try brainstorming ideas. You can save the interesting ideas ...
... you come up with and see if there is any scope for development. Another effective technique that authors occasionally use is to focus on a moment in history and then write a book considering what would have happened if the events had unfolded slightly differently. This type of writing usually requires a great deal of research to seem authentic, but the results can be very rewarding. Inspiration can also be found in newspaper articles, other pieces of work, or by looking back at personal experiences.
Choosing Book Publishers for Your Work
Taking the above steps will help you focus and generate ideas that will propel your plot forwards. Once you are happy with a story idea, you can begin the long writing process. Of course, your first idea may not be perfect and you may decide it simply isn't working once you start. If this happens, could you perhaps change a small element of it rather than throwing the whole thing away? Even if the plot is completely unworkable, the characters may be transferrable to a completely different story idea. Completing a book isn't easy, but the search for inspiration doesn't have to be difficult. Book publishers can help you share your stories and make money, so it will be worth the effort in the end.
