Publishing Your Book Costs To Consider
Writing a book and publishing one are two entirely separate entities. Publishing and marketing your book can incur costs that you may not be aware of during the writing process. Thankfully, there are quite a few (well, two to be specific) different things that you can do to help minimize the overall amount of money that you need to self-publish your book.
>> Proofreading/Editing
Many people oftentimes make the mistake of assuming that just because someone can write their own Kindle book that they're also automatically qualified to edit and proofread it as well. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and there are many books that are marred by a lack of editing.
While there are a few editors or proofreaders out there who offer their services at marginally affordable prices, the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of them cost a fair amount of money - and with good reason. Unless you're legitimately able to proofread and edit the final draft of your Kindle book yourself, this is one of the few portions of self-publishing where you're not going to want to try and skimp out on what you pay -- mainly ...
... because it's so darn important!
>> Marketing
Marketing your Kindle book properly and effectively is of the utmost importance if you're self-publishing - and this is especially so if you're a beginner author still trying to make a name for yourself.
Thankfully, there are a variety of different outlets for you to market your Kindle book online - and many of these are actually even free. We won't get into the specifics too much in this particular post, but definitely look into the possibilities and promise of marketing your Kindle book on Twitter, Facebook (particularly via fan pages), Google+, and any other social media focused outlet that congregates a mass amount of people who share similar interests. Goodreads.com, Free Book Giveaway days, and Amazon itself can all be viable ways to get the word out.
Whereas proofreading and editing your Kindle book is something that doesn't really provide many opportunities for you to save money outside of being experienced enough to do it yourself, marketing your book is something that you can learn to do effectively simply by learning more about it and researching things yourself online.
When it's all said and done, you're just going to have to recognize your particular financial position as it relates to how long you've been a Kindle book author (and your subsequent marketability and popularity) and simply work with what you can manage. There's no definitive amount of money that you have to spend in marketing your book in order to have it become popular in the digital marketplace. Instead, as long as it's a well-written book that you're committed to marketing, you should be able to grow your audience.
