Give your fridge a green makeover!

Millions of restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, butcher shops, contract caterers, hospitals, schools, food transport companies and many more institutions need to use commercial fridges and freezers to store their foodstuffs. These fridges and freezers use up a huge amount of the world's electricity generation and they are responsible for billions of tons of carbon production year upon year.

In today's world for many logistical, economic and political reasons it is not really possible to feed the population from one country without importing huge amounts of foodstuffs from other countries. Sometimes that means the other countries are on the opposite side of the world and the food has to cover great distances by air, sea, road and rail. The amount of energy consumed in the growing and transporting of food is truly awesome and the carbon footprint generated whilst doing this is quite staggering.

... because of poor storage conditions inside the fridge. Very often fridges suffer from excess humidity for many and varied reason such as poor fitting door seals or just leaving the door open for long periods. This creates a problem with icing on the evaporator and makes the fridge very inefficient. Sometimes it is because the fridges are badly positioned within the kitchens they provide for (as in too close to cookers etc.) Very often huge amounts of energy are wasted in the fridges themselves by poor maintenance prevention such as not replacing worn door seals, not topping up the refrigerant gas when necessary or not cleaning evaporators so that they can work more efficiently.
