Make Your Dad Glad - Gifts That Aren't Half Bad
Father's Day is a time to celebrate and thank your dad for all his help and love over the years and dads can often have an interesting sense of humour. The term 'dad joke' didn't get coined without plenty of help from these aging, pun-loving people and although we act as though their silly jokes are annoying (and sometimes even embarrassing) we really love our daddies and their awful skits. However, the trick to understanding your dad's naff sense of humour could have something to do with the fact that, at heart he's still a big kid.
Dads can be just as cheeky and fun as you probably were as a child and they usually remember your childhood better than you do too! So when you're considering Father's Day gifts for your pa, don't go with the generic stuff that everyone gets or go to the supermarket and buy something there. Make an effort and find your dad some super Father's Day gifts that appeal to his silly side.
If you want to conjure up fond memories of his childhood there are plenty of Father's Day gifts that will help. In this article we'll tell you about a few of our favourites.
Cheeky and Fun
If ...
... you got many gadgets as gifts for your birthday and Christmas growing up and your dad was the sort of father who would 'test' them for you by running to the shop and buying batteries then we think we might have a couple of awesome Father's Day gifts to suggest. You know the scenario, you get an incredibly cool battery powered remote controlled car or even something like a boat or helicopter and he spends more time crashing or sinking it than you do!
Well, it's possible to get some very cool, stylish metal toys for grown-ups. Our favourite is called the 'Miss Behavin II' - Candle Powered Motor Boat. It uses a little candle to propel itself across the water and the set comes with 12 candles for the job. The box is even decorated to look like a little boat-house on the inside and retro illustrations show you how it works on the back of the box.
Conjuring Memories
One great way to make your dad happy on Father's Day is to buy retro and creative Father's Day gifts because it will inspire memories of his childhood and other happy times. You can ask your dad questions about your own childhood too and chances are it'll remind him of things that happened to him. If he likes playing practical jokes, why not disguise his present too so he gets a surprise when he unwraps it? Or, if he is a bit of a clown, why not get him something that teases his silly side?
Our childhoods are a time when we are carefree and filled with joy and curiosity so paying homage to them occasionally when it's time to purchase Father's Day gifts is a really good idea. As well as toys, food plays a big part in any kid's, (or dad's!) life. The sweets he had growing up possibly weren't the same types you had; he may have had more hard sweets such as lemon sherbets, humbugs or mints for example. Chances are when you were growing up he stole some of your sweets though!
That's why we think that Retro Sweet Jars can also make good Father's Day gifts, there's enough for your dad to share with you or his friends, they look great on desks at work (or desks at home for that matter) and they do invite some fond memories. You can get personalised ones with your dad's name or nickname on them too!
Many retro sweet jars are available with a different theme, there are ones with a cowboy western label, computer game inspired 'Pac man' designs and even a design inspired by sci-fi B-movies. So whatever your dad's taste so long as he has a sweet tooth he could really love some retro sweets. Plus, when the jar is empty it makes a great container to stash all kinds of things from office stationary to bits of DIY kit.
Choose Wisely
One of the biggest gifts your dad has ever given you is probably a large portion of wisdom, so you'll need some of that when you pick out his Father's Day gift. It can be cool and quirky, funny or touching and truly meaningful.
You know your dad best so you'll realise what suits him the most. If you can, choose a gift which is related to one of his hobbies or interests. He'll appreciate you more for making the effort to find a great present which suits his discerning (strange and silly!) tastes.
