Comedy script writing is a popular genre whose origins began in radio and extended into TV and cinema. Comedy script writing is founded on the premise that entertainment is all about making people laugh till they begin to cry. Down the ages situation comedy has always has held a prominent position in men and women of every age.
About 90% of sitcom scripts face rejection. Coming up with clever quips is not easy. Besides, viewers' sense of humor changes from one era to the next. Shows that tickle the funny bone become raving success if they have interesting stories, are divided into short scenes and enacted in all seriousness.
Comedy script writing usually revolves around a certain situation or a main character. Comedy has a timeless beauty; writing it is a skill that has to be practiced. To make a sitcom sale-able, a few helpful tips can assist an aspiring writer:
* Learn the basics of screen script writing. This knowledge will stand you in good stead when you try your hand at a hilarious piece of literary work good enough to be enacted. Learn how to develop characters, write dialogue, construct a story and ...
... then align it with comic writing.
* Sitcom must be studied as a genre. It is similar yet poles apart from ordinary screenplay writing. A fan and a student of comedy script writing can definitely be expected to do a finer job of it.
* Alluding to a specific circumstance or character is much appreciated as the spectators begin to relate to the episode in some way. Focus on a character and build a situation around him or you could go the other way round and develop a credible story.
* When undertaking the task of comedy script writing, do a lot of brainstorming. Put everything on paper and then organize the material at hand. See whether you are able to summarize the whole script in a sentence.
* Arrange the sentence in such a way that the funny word is at the end of it. This adds strength to it.
* Do not write leading towards a joke. Let the character or the situation create the joke through their dialog or action. Do not try to fit in a joke that obviously seems to stand jarring apart. Let the joke blend in with the rest of the plot.
* Register your work with WGA to avoid your work of genius from being stolen.
Nobody can tell what makes some of the comical gigs tick or what makes them fall flat. You are your best critic. Your scrip should send you also into peals of laughter.
