Bank Probationary Officers who can be either fresh graduates or one with prior experience work in a bank under their senior officers and managers who give them assignments and then are closely monitored.A PO's performance is then evaluated by his seniors managers on the basis of which he is promoted further. During his probation period he is given proper training and is also deployed across various departments of the bank so as to make him explore various department of bank so that he can easily understand the working of a bank. But to get this position a candidate needs to clear the entrance examination for the post of Bank Probationary Officer.

If you want to apply for the entrance examination of a respectable post of a Probationary Officer in a bank then you need to clear through eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria which a student needs to clear before he appears in the entrance examination includes the following points:

Nationality

The first eligibility criteria a candidate needs to cross before he appears for the entrance exam for position of a probationary officer is Nationality. The candidate ...
... applying for the position must be either a Citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit

The next criteria which is the Age Limit for the candidate applying for the entrance examination. For public sector banks the age limit 20 to 30 years. For regional rural bank the age limit for Officer Scale- III is below 40 years, for Officer Scale- II it is above 21 years and below 32 years, for Officer Scale- I it is above 18 years and below 28 years, for Office Assistant it is between 18 years and 28 years. For SBI and SBI associate banks the age limit for a PO is 21 to 30 years and there is relaxation of age as per rules for reserved candidates.

Education Qualification

The third criteria which a candidate needs to clear be the criteria of education qualification. For Public Sector Banks a degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Central Government is required. For Regional Rural Banks degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent is required. For Officer Scale- I degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent is required, for Officer Scale- II (GBO) degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent with minimum 50% aggregate with experience of two ears years as an officer in a Bank or Financial Institution is required. For Officer Scale- III degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent with minimum 50% aggregate and experience of five years as an officer in a Bank or Financial Institution is required. For SBI and SBI associate banks a degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government is required.

Computer Literacy

The next criteria are computer literacy. This is not necessary in all the banks insist that the candidate should posse’s working knowledge of computers before joining the bank and few banks also mention that the desired computer skills should be acquired within six months of joining the bank.

If these eligibility criteria are kept in mind before applying for the post of a Bank PO it becomes much easier for the candidate to go through entrance procedure.
