The thickness of the media film is approx. 1/10th of human hair's diameter or a few microns. The tape media can deform and curl because of slightest elevated temperature. VXA tape format is not dependent on micron precision alignment among the magnetic tape heads and data tracks; on the other hand it is not true in conventional tape formats. In tracking tape formats the tracks consist of thousands of bytes along the tape length onto which the data is recorded. In VXA technology the data is recorded in the form of efficient, flexible packets that ensure data integrity and increase reliability. When the water temperature reached 96 oC, one of the VXA tape cartridges was put into the water for 30 seconds. The second tape was left in boiling water for 1 minute. Both the tapes were then removed from water and were shaken so that the excess moisture could be removed. Paper towels were used to dry the tape cartridges. Then in normal room conditions and temperature, both the VXA tapes were kept for 72 hours so that the moisture could completely dry off. After the tape cartridges were completely dried, they were put into the VXA drive for data retrieval. The data can completely recovered from both the VXA data tapes, and no error occurred during data retrieval.
