Kashmir-perfect Holiday Destination For Honeymoon

It is quite ironic that Kashmir, one of India’s most politically unstable regions, which for decades has been torn by military strife and wars, is also one of the country’s most romantic holiday destinations. Hands still coloured with rich intricate mehendi, wrists adorned with symbolic ceremonial bangles and hairlines marked with the blushing red of sindoor, coy new-brides are whisked off to Kashmir. So what makes this troubled land so attractive to honeymooners? Why do couples from all over India travel to Kashmir?
Do a google image search of Kashmir and you’ll have your answer. The silhouettes of mountains in the horizon, the breath-taking hues in the sky, still reflective waters of the lakes and lush green forests are the perfect setting for young love. Who wouldn’t fall in love when trapped on a beautiful house boat, gently floating in the middle of the gorgeous Dal Lake? If you want to be cut off from the outside world and spend time alone with your partner, then then really is no better setting.
If you must get off your houseboat or leave your luxurious resort then there’s plenty to do. Kashmir ...
... has a large number of scenic natural parks, wildlife sanctuaries, wetlands and game reserves which are open to tourists. You can take a guided jeep safari or boat ride to catch a glimpse of wildlife and exotic birds. Most Kashmir tours include a visit to the Amarnath cave; a beautiful Shiva shrine accessible from the town of Pahalgam. This shrine is covered in snow most of the year, but in summer when the snow melts away a huge natural cave is revealed. This religious site is frequented by devotees, who visit not only for the spiritual experience, but the sheer magnificence of the imposing organic structure.
If you enjoy shopping, then Kashmir tours are an ideal honeymoon choice for you. Kashmiri handcrafts are popular the world over. In local markets you will find irresistible jewellery shops selling precious and semi-precious jewellery, all intricately crafted and studded with stones. Textiles from the region are exported and sold all over the world. Cashmere and Pashmina shawls make for great souvenirs. Couples can even buy a whole bunch of décor items for their new home – ornate lamps, papier mâché boxes and carved wooden furniture, all of which are handcrafted by local artisans.
The best time to honeymoon in Kashmir I between March and October during which this beautiful part of the country is at its romantic best!
