The four large states of Karnataka, Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are collectively viewed as South India; a separate unit which is culturally very different from the rest of the country. The Southern peninsula because of barriers of language and distance remains cut off and isolated from the North. Which is why for tourists, visiting the south is like visiting an entirely different country. There are a lot of ancient temples and pilgrimage sites all over south India, which attract hordes of local tourists. One can also avail of South India travel packages which take you to expansive beaches on both the eastern and western coastlines, the thickly forested hills in the interiors and the coffee plantations in the Nilgiris. However, South India has a lot on offer even for those who prefer urban spaces and big bustling cities.

Each of South India’s four states in home to an immerging metropolis. Bangalore, or Bengaluru, in Karnataka is the countries IT capital. This city attracts the youth from all parts of the country, who seek employment in the IT world. Bangalore is definitely a young city, catering to the needs ...
... of students, young adults, start-ups and innovative entrepreneurship. It also boasts of an upcoming performing arts scene!

Hyderabad, the capital and largest city in Andra Pradesh, is the fourth most populated metropolis in India. It has a Mughal history, which has now given way to industry. Hyderabad is a centre for industrial manufacturing and home to growing financial institutions. It is also the largest centre for pearl and diamond trading. The city has recently been given a face-lift, and now boasts of an attractive urban infrastructure, wide roads, efficient transportation and much more.

Chennai or Madras is one of the biggest ports in the Bay of Bengal, and serves as India’s gate way to China, Hong Kong, Singapore and all other South East Asia. Chennai is second to Bangalore in export of information technology and business process outsourcing. It is a thriving industrial centre for the automobile, computer hardware and healthcare industries. Chennai is also seen at the cultural capital of the south, with an active dance, music, theatre and arts and crafts scene.

Kochi, a popular tourist destination in most South India vacations, is the largest port on the south western coast, offering a gateway to the Arabian Sea, particularly to the Gulf and Middle East. It is a southern naval base, headquarters of the southern coast guard and has the largest ship building industry in India. It is also home to the International Pepper Exchange and major chemical industries. Out of the four, Kochi has always been the most popular among tourists for its well preserved Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial architecture and beautiful beaches.

India has a past worth celebrating. But perhaps what is even more exciting the rapid development the country is going through. This growth can be experienced first-hand when on urban South India vacations.
