How To Make Mac Osx Mountain Lion 10.8 Usb Stick Installation

Do you feel trouble when you need download Mountain Lion twice or more from Apple store as Apple no longer provides USB version of the installation program? Well, if you have two or more Mac, use USB disk to install obviously save even more time. So, here is the solution for your trouble. If you already purchased the Mountain Lion, don’t rush to install the system, just make a recovery USB stick firstly for installing the system to other Mac computers or recovering system when need to do system recovery. Follow this article to make a USB stick installation of Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8 step by step.
Step 1: Download the Mountain Lion from Apple store, you will be prompted to restart the computer to start the installation after download complete, don’t restart firstly.

Step 2: You will see an “Install OS X Mountain Lion” program from the application folder after download. If you just restart the computer firstly, after the installation the file will be automatically deleted. This is why no hurry to restart. Step 3: Prepare 8GB or more USB disk. The recovery USB disk production and installation process will take 25 minutes, in fact, you only need five minutes to operate, and for other 20 minutes, you can go to a cup of tea.

Step 4: Start production. Find the file you just copied, right-click "Show Package Contents." Then click "Properties" - "Shared Support", the directory contains a file called InstallESD.dmg, put the file onto the desktop.

Step 5: Open the “Disk Utility”.

Step 6: Drag the file InstallESD.dmg from desktop to the left of Disk Utility, and then double-click the file.

Step 7: Connect the USB stick to computer, select the USB stick from the left side of Disk utility, then click on the right, the partition layout select "1 Partition", then click on "Options" and select GUID Partition Table and then click "good." The purpose of this is to ensure the recovery production of USB stick can bootable the installation.

Step 8: And then choose the USB stick from the left of Disk Utility, click “recovery” from the upper right corner, then you will see InstallESD.dmg in the “Source Disk” column, drag the USB stick from left to the Destination Disk, then click Recovery.

Last: The system prompts for a password, enter the password to start the recovering. After the process completed, you can use this USB stick to install the Mac Mountain Lion system on other Mac computers, or do system recovery.

Tips: If there is Failed to restore - invalid argument warnings, you can try to mount installESD.dmg, then drag the installESD.dmg into the source disk.
