Welcome To Amritsar
Traveling in Amritsar is a pleasure as it is very well connected through road, rail and air. Amritsar has established itself as a popular tourist center because of its easy accessibility. Traveling in Amritsar through train is very easy because the rail connections of Amritsar are very well developed. The Wagah border, often called the Berlin wall of Asia, is a ceremonial border on the India–Pakistan Border where each evening there is a retreat ceremony called 'lowering of the flags', which has been held since 1959. At that time there is an energetic parade by the Border Security Force (B.S.F) of India and the Pakistan Rangers soldiers. It may appear slightly aggressive and even hostile to foreigners but in fact the parades are imitating the pride and anger of a Cockerel. The ceremony lasts for 45 minutes and is carried out before sunset. 4:15 pm is the time during winter and 4:45 during summer. The border gate is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. However, the ceremony starts only after 4:00 pm. So if you want to watch the ceremony, you have to reach the place not later than 3:00 pm.
Jallianwala Bagh used is a place of great significance, sorrow and historical tragedy. It is witness to one of the cruelest massacres of the pre-Independence era, and hence has become the symbol of national importance and remembrance. Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden located in Amritsar, Punjab in India. In the pre-Independence era, public rallies were organized on the grounds of Jalianwala Bagh. Inside the garden, a memorial was built in 1951. The monument in the garden is open for the public to view and visit. People can visit the garden on all seven days of the week. The timings of the visits are from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm in the summer and 7:00 am to 8:00 pm in the winter.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya inaugurated one of the most sacred temples of Amritsar, the Durgiana Temple. The temple which is set near the Lohgarh Gate of Amritsar is enshrined with Goddess Durga.
