It is a proven fact that effective article marketing can help in propelling your business and daily life to new levels of success. Indeed, having articles written, distributed, and read, is a common tool used by people in this industry.
But there is one trade- off that people need to understand when it comes to this promotional method. It all has to do with finding the right balance between quality, readable content, and targeted, relevant keyword usage. Too much of either of these elements, and the optimum level of response to your article will quickly be lost.
To analyze this seemingly delicate interaction, let's start off with the very basics. What is quality content, and what are targeted keywords?
- Quality Content.
Whenever you write an article, you need to ask yourself - "what are the main points the reader should be picking up on?". You need to identify the moral of the story, the knowledge you wish to share with the reader, and the usefulness / relevance of your text.
If you are able to pick out answers to each of these things, chances are that you have done a good job with the underlying ...
... fundamentals of the article. On the other hand, if the content is difficult to decipher, hard to identify with, and lacking in flow and style, the article probably needs to be revised or altered.
The aim of performing the critique detailed above is not to hurt your self -esteem, just in the same way that it is not to boost your ego. It is simply to ensure that your writing is relevant, effective, and likely to have a useful effect on the audience.
- Targeted Keywords.
Regardless of the level of quality that the text in your article meets, there is absolutely no doubt that somewhere you will use something known as a "keyword". Basically, these keywords are specific words or phrases which are used to index the article in search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Additionally, they help a potential reader find the article when searching.
Imagine that you are looking for an article on home improvement. When you visit a search engine, you are likely to type a phrase such as "home improvement tips". If the author of an article uses that specific "keyword" a few times in their text, the chances of the reader finding that exact article are much higher than one, on the same topic, without that phrase.
Therefore, keywords are important because they allow your article to be found and read.
-Finding The Balance.
Obviously, there is a trade- off between good content, and the ability to use targeted keywords. If you write solely to the point, and create a highly sophisticated, knowledgeable article, you run the risk of missing out important keywords. If this is the case, your efforts will go to waste, as it will be difficult to find your article on the internet.
Alternatively, if you try to rig your article with too many keywords, the flow, structure, and logic behind your writing will become disrupted.
Unfortunately, there is no exact answer to the content versus keywords puzzle. This is something you will have to find out by yourself. Before you feel disappointed in the lack of "quality content" in this article however, just understand that you are now fully aware of the fact that a trade- off exists - and that you need to work to find the optimal level of each element.
