Better Writing 7 Ideas Guaranteed To Improve Your Article Writing
When developing as a writer, sometimes a fresh idea or two can give you a real push toward better results.
Once your confidence in your writing skills increases, your articles will improve by leaps and bounds. Following a few simple guidelines can put your writing confidence on the fast track to success.
The more I learn, the more I find that we are all better than we think we are. We just need to shake loose the doubts and take the next step forward.
Whatever the subject of your writing, I believe the first thing you should do is to put yourself in the mind of your reader and really think about what they are likely to want to know. What are the questions they want answered.
If you are writing about knowledge gained from your own experiences, (as in fact I am with this particular article), then you should use your memories of your own progress, within your chosen topic.
It is then a good idea to set yourself some sort of goal. The type and level of goal is likely to be different for everyone. The only important thing for you, is to set the bar higher than it was yesterday.
The next thing, ...
... with your personal goal in mind, is to set yourself a schedule. I find that it suits me to sit down and write at the same time every day (usually in the morning).
The amount of time you allow may vary with the rest of your timetable, but it is important for it to be realistic in terms of the goal you have set yourself.
Once you have sat down and tried this a few times, you will get an idea of how many words you can expect to produce within a 'writing hour'.
I find that it is vital for me to look forward to my periods of writing, so I make sure that my surroundings are comfortable. I need an un-cluttered space, with some relaxing music.
When the music helps to create alpha brain wave activity, then all the better.
Another tip which helps me to look forward to writing, is to have decided on my title, or headline, sometime earlier. This works best for me when I have worked on the headline the evening before. I now understand that this probably has the effect of allowing my sub-conscious to work on the ideas while I sleep.
In fact, it is not unknown for me to wake up with an article pretty much fully formed in my mind.
I can then hardly wait to get it written down.
While writing, I always have at least one dictionary within easy reach. I also like to keep word lists handy; I do not enjoy seeing words repeated too often, so probably neither does a reader.
This also helps when a mental block means I can not spell a word I know I should know.
Even having used the dictionary and spell check, I would never consider a piece of writing complete without it having been proof-read and edited at least twice. I usually do this some hours after the first draft. This also sometimes allows me to find a better way to express one or two of the ideas.
Using these hints and ideas, your writing now looks a little like any other successful process. Knowing what you want to pass on to your reader, you have set a goal and a schedule to achieve it.
Your 'office' is somewhere you look forward to being in. Your title or headline might even be pulling you there!
Confidence in the accuracy you have produced gives you a feeling of a job well done. You know you have produced a piece of writing which will keep a reader interested and informed.
One great thing about being a writer is knowing that you will never stop improving. We can all learn from each other and there is a lot of pleasure in discovering new ways to make our own efforts better and so of more value to our readers.
