Amritsar was founded in 1577 by the fourth guru Ram Das, Amritsar is home to Sikhism’s holiest shrine the Golden Temple. The city of Amritsar is a glittering and showcases one of the most compounded traditions and secular culture. The name of the city derives from the name of the pool around the Golden Temple (aka Harmandir Sahib) and means "holy pool of nectar" (Amrit: elixir; SAR: (short for sarovar) lake). It is the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion, and they are rightfully very proud of the city and their very beautiful and unique Gurdwara (place of worship).

In spite of its modern outlook, the city still preserves and emanates a vital and enriching uniqueness.

Jallianwala Bagh is a short 5-minute walk from Hotel Raj Darbar, Jallianwala Bagh, a garden belonging to the Jalla, derives its name from that of the owners of this piece of land in Sikh times. It was then the property the family of Sardar Himmat Singh Jallevalia (1829), a noble in the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780–1839), who originally came from the village of Jalla, now in Fatehgarh Sahib District of the Punjab.

The Wagah border, often called the "Berlin wall of Asia", is a ceremonial border on the India–Pakistan Border where each evening there is a retreat ceremony called 'lowering of the flags', which has been held since 1959. At that time there is an energetic parade by the Border Security Force (B.S.F) of India and the Pakistan Rangers soldiers. Troops of each country put on a show in their uniforms with their colorful turbans. Border officials from the two countries sometimes walk over to the offices on the other side for day to day affairs. The happenings at this border post have been a barometer of the India-Pakistan relations over the years.

Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is in the Ram Bagh Park. Now the palace houses a museum, exhibiting oil paintings, miniatures, coins and weapons from the Sikh period. The sprawling 4.5 acres of land in the historic Rambagh Heritage Garden at the heart of the holy city of Amritsar has been made available for developing the panorama by the Government of Punjab, whereas the entire cost of setting up of the panorama has been borne by the Government of India. The main attraction of the panorama is a gigantic 12 meters tall and 100 meters long panoramic painting depicting six major battle expeditions of the Maharaja. The battle expeditions depicted in the painting are supplemented by large circular foreground diorama displaying numerous mannequins of prominent warriors, soldiers, animals, weapons and so on. A specially designed creative illumination of the large painting and the foreground diorama, supported by battle-field sound effects at the background enhance the level of the experience of the viewers.
