The technology market is full of various brands that offer high end but cheap tablets to satisfy customers’ world over. However, with so much competition there is yet another brand, HTC. It has recently come out with Slate 7 available for $140 measuring 7-inch powered with 4.1 Android Jelly bean. The added advantage is its’ Beats Audio sound and amazing screen.

Let us find out what more it has to offer especially when it is up against tough competition.

Features

The resolution of this 7-inch tablet is 1,024 x 600-pixel and this matches the resolution of Tab 2 by Samsung. The panel is LCD but it lacks the charm of a new generation tab as against other tablets. This of course adversely impacts the view factor of the content and the pictures, especially when you want crystal clear readability. For example, if you visit The New York Times you will find it difficult to view page headlines and short summaries. Even after blowing up the font size you will observe a shimmer effect that is distracting indeed. The summary and subheads become hard to read or even make out.

This effect brings down the screen ...
... performance of this tab especially when we compare it with the Samsung Tab 2. Even though both the tablets sport the same resolution but Samsung has managed to provide a brilliant screen display.

HTC Vs Samsung Tab

Performance, Speed and Pricing

If we compare this tab again with the Samsung Tab 2 7.0, the OS of both the tabs is again the Jelly Bean Android 4.1.1 with a RAM of 1GB. The rear end camera is 3MP and the front mounted camera for video chat is a VGA. Powered with a dual core 1.6GHz processor it is in competition with 1GHz OMAP 4430 engine provided by Samsung. However, there is a huge variation of battery power, HP provides you with 3,500 mAh, Samsung offers a whooping 4,000-mAh battery. This does makes sense especially when you are attempting to use the tab for a whole day.

Another thing is that the Slate 7 sports a cell. The pricing too seems to be a huge difference with Samsung Tab 2 which is priced at $179.99 against the Slate 7 at $139.99, all this keeping in mind that earlier Tab 2 was priced at $249.99.

On terms of processing power, it seems to lack that zing factor that usually fascinates technology users. When you attempt to download apps it is 5 seconds slower as against the Tab 2. This is so when both the tabs run on same OS. Often you will receive messages of incompatibility of device with most of the apps that include USA Today, Wikipedia and the Weather Channel. This does reflect differences in terms of speed, performance and download ability of Slate 7.

Other things like navigating through five home screens seem tiresome especially when you need to go till the end to slide back. Samsung offers you quick navigation with a number line located on top of the screen for easy home screen access.

Camera, Battery and Audio

Both the tabs sport a 3MP rear camera that performs equally. Attempting to capture pictures indoors will give a washed out grainy effect that lacks details. Both the tabs perform equally on the camera front. The battery provided by Tab 2 is 500mAh more than that of Slate 7. This does make a difference especially when Samsung Tab 2 will easily last a day long as against Slate 7. There are claims from HP that the tab is capable of providing a video playback of 5 hours as against Samsung with 9 hours non-stop video playback. HP however gives you the advantage of microUSB charging cable along with the tab as against proprietary connector offered with Tab 2.

The sound quality provided by HP is Beats Audio to enhance audio experience while streaming movie. Each sound is enhanced to a level that you will be able to enjoy your movie viewing experience that is lacking in Samsung tab.

Conclusion

If you are in a dilemma about which gadget to purchase then it is essential to know the pros and cons of the HTC Slate 7 straight out.

This tablet provides you with a well-contoured unit that is rubber back to give you good grip. A microUSB universal charge is an added advantage. The technology inclusion of Beats Audio is impressive that enhances your movie viewing experience along with the audio bass effect. When it comes to the cons side you will see a screen that is not as impressive as it is expected to be, a camera that is not high quality and the worst part is the slow performance speed.
