Content Creation Easier Said Than Done

Many times, writing comes easy to those who do it for a living. All a person has to do is sit down and begin typing or writing with a pen or pencil, right? For the most part, this thinking is correct. There are those select few who can sit down and write a long winded piece from beginning to end without trepidation and have it turn out beautifully.
On the other hand, you can be part of the "other group" out there that has to sit down, write, stand up, sit down, tweet, write a little bit more and on and on. Writing for a long period of time just does not work for everyone. Writing well can be even more difficult if you do not have the inspiration or the care for the subject matter.
This problem makes content creation almost impossible. The "problem" does not mean you are a bad writer, because everyone experiences it, especially in an office setting. Over the course of a month, my first month in the working world since graduating from college, has left me feeling that I have written nothing but what I wanted to write. This is a lucky feeling and has given me a sense of belonging in this world of "content creators".
...
... The problem that I have experienced, however, comes when I want to write about anything other than work related materials. In my case, and I'm sure many others, it comes with trying to write about myself.
You hear stories throughout the day and week and you want to have an outlet to get them to a larger audience. You get home and you end up staring at a blank slate hoping for inspiration, but it never comes. Is there a way to get around this? Of course, and that is what I want to tell you.
Detach yourself from work. When you leave the office every evening, just stop thinking about work for a few hours. It is hard, I know, because it is all you have been thinking about for eight or nine hours, but you have to do it. If you do not, you will end up miserable and never write for anything other than work related material.

Physically (not digitally) write it out. I find myself unable to come up with anything to write nine times out of 10 because I type it out and then have the luxury of the "delete" button. If you take the time to find an old notebook or go splurge on a nice Moleskin notepad, you see more and more ideas begin to accumulate. With these ideas, you do not sit wondering what to write about and instead, you have more time to develop thoughts around your central idea.

Once you start, do NOT stop. The save button can be your best friend and worst friend all at once. When you stop writing and save a piece in hopes to come back later, you lose all train of thought. Any new idea that you may have could detract from your initial message, leaving you with two different ideas of the same topic, in one place. You get muddled, frustrated and more than likely, feeling like what you wrote is not good enough. So never stop writing once you get going!
These three steps keep the content creation machine that is YOU, going. They are simple, easy to accomplish and ultimately, a saving grace in my own life at times. Writing is an art, and one that not everyone can do well, at least not all the time. If there had to be a final step to how you get better content, it would be this: Do not be afraid and just write.
