Foote's ‘Dividing the ...
... Estate' at NYC is a story about the Gordon family of Harrison, Texas. It is a narrative about the collapse of the family and their ancestral home in the time of financial recession. Although this play is set in 1987, its content is quite true in today's context as well.
Siblings Mary Jo (Halle Foote) and Lewis (Gerald McRaney) are in the deep financial trouble as they have borrowed a lot of money from the estate and now they want to split up the family wealth to ease off their present financial crisis. But their mother Stella (Elizabeth Ashley) is totally against their decision as she believes that what is there with family for years has to permanently stay with the family. Stella's other daughter Lucille (Penny Fuller) and Stella's grandson Son (Devon Abner) has been working hard to maintain the estate throughout their life and they do not want to waste their sacrifices.
