Plenty Of Reasons To Believe Browns Will Be Better In 2013-14
The Cleveland Browns have been stuck at the bottom of the AFC North for longer than their price per head fans have cared to see, and rebuilding has been a constant theme for this team. The Browns are set to once again start over in 2013-14, but this time there may be reason to believe it’s for the best. Cleveland reloaded in the offseason under general manager Mike Lombardi, who entrusted head coach Rob Chudzinski with getting the most out of his roster. The Browns aren’t expected to win the Super Bowl, but there are plenty of reasons to believe they will be better this season.
The optimism begins with an offense that will be guided by new coordinator Norv Turner, who has always been better in the OC role than as a head coach. Turner will get the most out of second-year quarterback Brandon Weeden, who actually had a much better NFL debut season than most sportsbook reviews critics give him credit for. Only Andrew Luck finished with more passing yards among rookies, and he did a very good job showing poise ...
... in the pocket with his rocket arm. Cleveland added slot receiver Davone Bess to a group that already features Greg Little and Josh Gordon, and Jordan Cameron may be the most underrated tight end in the NFL. The offensive line is a strength with Joe Thomas anchoring the left side and Alex Mack back in the middle, and they should open up a ton of room for Trent Richardson and the rushing attack.
The defense is also expected to take another step forward with Ray Horton arriving as the new coordinator after he maximized the talent on his roster in Arizona a year ago. The Browns have a solid defensive line in their 3-4 with Phil Taylor at the nose and a strong rotation around him, and Lombardi managed to add Paul Kruger and rookie first-round pick Barkevious Mingo to a strong linebacker core that already includes Jabaal Sheard and D’Qwell Jackson. Cornerback Joe Haden is an elite talent, and will have third-round pick Leon McFadden and Chris Owens battling for the starting job on the other side of a defense that should be much stronger this live betting season.
Cleveland hasn’t been able to get over the five-win mark in recent years and their online sports betting futures total for this season has been set at six. A tough AFC North division will make reaching .500 a tough challenge, but it’s one this coaching staff and roster feel they can hit. A manageable schedule will help the Browns in pursuit of that six-win total, as there are plenty of reasons to think they will be a much better team in 2013-14 as the franchise is finally headed in the right direction following so many years of futility.
