Choosing the right dog bed for your dog breed can be really irritating at times, because of so many differences in various breeds. Wouldn't it be great if you just had to choose generic dog beds for all possible dog breeds? Indeed, that would be a great option, but alas, since all dog breeds are different from each other, you would have to choose different dog beds according to the breeds of the dogs. There is some respite from this situation though, if you happen to fall for Japanese dog breeds. Most of the dogs belonging to Japanese dog breeds are very similar in nature. They resemble each other so much that the natives in Japan actually refer to them as the same breed and divide them into three broad sub-classifications. These sub fields correspond to the Akita (large), medium and small breeds. Each of the dogs belonging to these sub-categories is classified according to the size, as is self-explanatory from the names into which the sub-fields are divided.

As already mentioned, the general structure of most of the dogs belonging to the Japanese dog breeds is quite similar. Demarked by upright ears, which are usually ...
... small and antenna shaped, these dogs resemble more or less the huskies or the Eskimo-dogs. They have curled tails, which roll a long way above their waist height and touch the back. They have long heads; mostly wedge shaped, distinctly pointed towards the nose and slightly rounded up towards the head. They also have thick coats, which is the point of resemblance with Eskimo dogs. Their coats make them stand-off, apart from the crowd, and are usually singular in nature.

Major differences in different Japanese dog breeds lie in their shapes, sizes and colors. Most of these breeds are named in accordance with the region they had originated from or where they are found in most quantities. The Hokkaido, Akita, Shikoku and the Tosa are just some of the few examples which are testimonial to the fact that most of the Japanese dog breeds are named according to the region in which they are most commonly found.

Japanese dog breeds are believed to be high-spirited, highly obedient and fearless. They are also known to be ‘shrewd' campaigners, but most of this has no scientific base. Their mental acumen is derived from the inward nudging triangular eyes that most Japanese dog breeds bear, which makes them appear as if they are in a ‘thinking' mode. The Tosa-Inu and the Akita-Inu are two of the most famous Japanese dog breeds, which have been westernized over the centuries. These breeds have been cross bred with many western breeds, especially the Alaskan huskies and the like. The brushwood or the ‘Shiba-Inu' is the only small Japanese dog breed. While most of the Japanese dog breeds belong to the Spitz class, the Shiba Inu is different and is more of a toy dog. There are not many aspects to choosing a dog belonging to the clan of Japanese dog breeds and most of them have similar characteristics, shapes and behavioral abilities.
