Teenagers On Holiday In Spain
If you're looking for some family-bonding with your teens while on holiday, Spain offers you great opportunities to enjoy history, geography, culture, arts, sports, adventure, beaches, National Parks, eco-tourism, great food and importantly, wonderful parties, discos, clubs and entertainment/leisure centers.
It's a good idea to consult your kids before you plan the trip and discover what they really would like to do. There's no point getting there and finding out that they hate sight-seeing or lounging on the beach – this is a sure fire recipe for a nightmare vacation. Teens today are well-informed and socially connected and they probably know what exactly they want to do. If you're traveling with a large group that includes people of different age-groups, you need to plan an itinerary that satisfies everyone and this is where your negotiation skills could be put to best use! Allow the kids to do some research and provide their own itineraries – graphic guides, the Internet and blogs are their resources.
Looking at what Spain has to offer the young crowd – the big cities like Madrid and Barcelona have a ...
... great combination of sight-seeing, beaches, sports related activities, culture and art besides opportunities to learn the language, sample the delicious local cuisine and shop for stuff ranging from haute couture to flea market bargains. The Las Ramblas in Barcelona and the Rastro in Madrid are also great hang-out places where you can catch nearby historical sights, stop at coffee-houses, enjoy the hustle and bustle of the markets and take some great photos.
For teens who love history and culture, there's a treasure-trove here. Ranging from Toledo, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Salamanca to Sevilla every place is drenched in legend and history. Activities like sword-making in Toledo, ceramics and pottery-making, flamenco and bull-fighting in other cities, are what make this a rich and valuable experience for your kids to share with you. Literature students will love walking in the footsteps of Don Quixote and the Spanish conquistadores. Audio tours are available in most places and they can do some reading before they embark.
Beach-buffs will thrive anywhere along Spain's stunning 5000 km coastline, with many resorts, quaint fishing villages, the rugged coves of the Costa Brava and the balmy waters of the Mediterranean in the Canary Islands, all offering a plethora of leisure and sports activities. Another big attraction here is the dazzling variety of delicious sea-food and local cuisines which differ widely from region to region.
Finally, ensure that your kids get some free time to do just what they want, as long as they stay safe and within limits.
