When kids transform into teenagers, holidays change overnight! The kids, who were happily playing hide-n-seek till yesterday, have suddenly grown all too big to enjoy that game anymore. They have grown up all of a sudden, and have started throwing off their weight at home, and have started giving you a tough time already! As a mother, you have started feeling the pressure, to keep them on track.

Before you set off for the task of planning fun activities for your teenager, keep in mind, that they are no more kids, and they may not buy into your idea very easily. You must design a plan in such a way that they feel that it’s actually their plan, or a plan which they have been wanting all this while.

Teenagers do not like being instructed, so if you give them some cool ideas, they may actually love it, and use it constructively.

Here is a list of three awesome ideas, which will keep your teenager busy during the holidays-

• Home work- No, not the usual ones they get from their school. Invite your teen to participate in the daily chores like, buying the groceries for the house, making dinner, doing ...

• Paid work- Part time work will help them make new friends, learn the rules and obey them, and acquire a strong sense of work ethic from the very beginning. You will be surprised by the number of places that are willing to hire teenagers to get their odd jobs done at less money. Some places where you can suggest them to work are swimming pools, construction companies, grocery stores etc. You can also put up a summer camp for kids, where they can learn some recreational activities. They can also go online and play games like online clubs for girls, girly quizzes, brain twisters etc.

• Brain work- They might have overgrown the usual summer camps, but still there are a lot of ways to keep their brains active and alive. You can enroll them to a summer reading program at the local library, check out magazines, read cookbooks etc. They can also check out some teenager websites where they can play games like online clubs for girls, girly quizzes, write articles, get tips of how to dress up, and know about the latest trends on fashion, music etc.

In the end, summers or holidays are all about having fun, and there is no better way, to explore their interests or talents. Encourage and motivate them to learn some new skills like, a new language, music, dance, anything which gives them an adrenaline rush.
