Sony Ericsson W705 - Wifi Walkman Phone
It's hard not to be distracted by the incoming Sony Ericsson W995 which packed A-GPS, an 8MP camera, but the Sony Ericsson W705 is also an excellent Walkman phone thanks to its stylish design and added Wi-Fi wings. It is a mix of the brushed-metal silver finish and soft-touch plastic covering on the back and keypad.
The dimension of 95mm x 48mm x 14.3mm and weight of 98g make it an easy carry.Featuring a 320×240 TFT display, 2.4 inches, 120MB of onboard storage with Memory Stick Micro support, the Sony Ericsson W705 is the first WiFi enabled Sony Ericsson Walkman phone aimed at those who need high speed connectivity for music use.
WiFi ability is the facility that will endear the Sony Ericsson W705 to an entire generation who have been brought up with digitally transferred music - and the an HSDPA connection is featured, allowing fast transfer when there is no WiFi service in the vicinity.
As this is a phone firmly aimed at those music is their thing that the Sony Ericsson W705 ...
... lacks a GPS system will not put off many of the target audience, because that is not W705's focus on. Music function can be accessed to in a very convenient way - through the Walkman button on the top of the phone. Google Maps is incorporated, as is a triangulation facility that can pinpoint your position - although less accurately than GPS - using mobile phone masts.
Here comes the Sony Ericsson's shake control: by shaking the phone users can move through tracks and change volume. The Sony Ericsson W705 is a well priced phone for music lovers for whom looks counts as well!
One strange omission is that of a 3.5mm headphone jack - curious indeed on a phone designed for the music lover. The W705 also has a 3.2 mega pixel camera with on auto focus which is a bit disappointing. And a front-facing camera is equipped for two-way video calling.
It offers 10 hours of talk time and 400 hours on standby. With the WiFi function switched on it lasted for two days of use between charges.
This handset is by no means breaking, but it is a comfortable, well-built and easy to use phone that does its intended job very well indeed. The music capability is second to none, as a Sony Walkman phone should be, with the only one omisson, however, the lack fo the standard headphone jack.
