One of the models announced by Samsung today at the CTIA Wireless 2006 trade show in Las Vegas is the Samsung T509, an Ultra-slim bar phone, measuring not more than 9.8 mm in thickness, even thinner than the Motorola RAZR and SLVR. With the t509, Samsung becomes the only mobile phone company with three distinct slim phone designs, clamshell, slider and bar.

The Samsung T509 mobile phone is again a tri-band (850/1800/1900 MHz) phone with GPRS capabilities. The T509 boasts of a large, vivid 262K color screens, ideal for watching streaming videos or viewing images taken with the phone integrated camera. The Camera included is a VGA camera with zoom and dedicated one touch video capture and playback.

On the connectivity side, T509 feature high speed EDGE connectivity, through which consumers can browse and download data files at faster speeds than most phones in its class. Also included is Bluetooth wireless technology to support delivery of entertainment and information on demand services.

... in the market, making Motorola RAZR look rather plump when placed side-by-side. It is only 9.8mm thick, but its slimness does not mean the T509 comes with less features. Expect all your regular cell phone functions to ship with the T509, and yes, Samsung even managed to squeeze a digital camera inside. T-Mobile is the carrier of choice, and the phone will be commercially available by the second quarter of this year.

Digital Trends reviews the Samsung T509 and concludes that it a poorly designed phone with a lack of advanced features, and a number of issues which need to be fixed before it hits the store shelves. About the phone camera, the review notes, Because Samsung decided to cheap out on the camera on this phone, it pretty much worthless unless you picture message someone a lot. The VGA-quality pictures look like utter disasters when transferred onto a computer where you can view them in full resolution.
