The Many Benefits Of Being A Freelance Copywriter

The days when I'm not travelling around the UK, working for fashion outlets, I have a very lazy work day.
I start by getting up early, and going for a swim (I usually swim five times a week). After a good half an hour swim, I'm back in my office with some breakfast, deciding what to do with my day. Sometimes I'll start lazily, working up to the big things. Sometimes I'm in the mood to smash through the big challenges, and work my way down the list. The point is, it's all up to ME. And this is one of the biggest benefits to being a freelance copywriter (or indeed any freelance profession). YOU are in control.
Not just of how your day pans out, but much more. You're in control of your work schedule, who you work with/for, where to direct your efforts, how to plan your projects (no boss telling you HOW to do something - Clients might do this, but that's another post altogether) and so on.
Here's some more reasons why freelancing is so damn tasty:
Freedom. Want a day off? Go for it. Just bear in mind, you don't earn money when you're not working (a day lost is a day's wages gone forever).
More freedom. ...
... Depending on the type of job role and where you choose to work, you can work from virtually anywhere in the world. Since a large degree of my work is based solely online, communicating with clients through Skype, Email and voice chats, I can simply take my laptop anywhere in the world (provided there's internet) and work there. Awesome!
No commuting! We all hate that grind, getting to work every day. When you're a freelancer working online (offline is somewhat different; I travel regularly on trains to other places of work, depending on who I'm working with), the only commute you have to do is to the chair in front of your computer. A definite plus.
If you're shy, no fear of meeting people! Now, it would be an understatement for me to say I'm not shy; you're lucky if you get me to shut up for 5 minutes. But for those of you who aren't so keen on the idea of meeting new people face-to-face every day, a freelance position online might suit you perfectly. You might have to get on the phone once in awhile but overall, it's quite a quiet job.
As I've mentioned already briefly, no boss! You get to decide how the project goes, at what pace, and with ALL your own ideas. For some this might be daunting (after all, if all goes tits-up, it's all on you), but for those of us who relish a challenge and independence, this is an incredible lifestyle.
Flexible hours. While I've already kinda gone through this, let me expand on this point. If you're a guy or girl who has a family and you're spending all your hours at a desk in a job you hate, freelancing might be worth some serious consideration. Because of the flexible hours, you're free to take time off and see your family whenever you want. No more disappointing cancellations on that camping trip you keep promising to your
kids every weekend!
You can do what you love. This one's a biggie. Sick of being a drone in a cubicle? Want to flex your creative muscles and show people what you're really made of? Tired of co-workers (or your boss) getting the credit
for all YOUR hard work? Freelancing has the recognition factor you need. On top of that, you can choose EXACTLY what you want to do? No more taking projects you hate because your boss told you to.
Earn MORE! While you lose the factor of job security in a big way (especially if you're in the US; I know you guys gets health plans and so on for being in a steady job), you can actually earn more. It's time to begin charging what you're actually worth!
While there are many more benefits, these are the big ones. If I've missed any, or you've thought of some good ones, shoot them in the comments section below! I'd love to hear what you have to say! And please share this article with friends, colleagues and clients; it helps more than you know!
