When someone visits your home, what do you think captures your visitor’s attention first before he or she enters? Is it the roof? Is it the vinyl sidings? Is it the window? Or the over-all paint of your house’s façade? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Now, stop overthinking, and ask yourself these questions instead. Where does your guest wait while he or she pushes the doorbell? At the doorstep. Where does he or she stand for a few seconds or minutes before you open the door and give him or her a warm welcome? At the doorstep. But what is it that he or she most probably scrutinizes while in the moment of waiting? Well, it’s not the doorstep this time, but the door. Simple.

If your entrance door were human, it would usher all your visitors towards your home. But since that’s far from reality, it only keeps the guests company before you have the doorway opened. It stays still and boring enough for your friends to look at. You see, that is how important the entrance is. You may have overlooked it, putting much more weight on other parts of your house’s exterior, but hey, you now know better. Create a good impression ...
... to your friends and relatives. Surprise them and take them to places they have never imagined. Now, we have some entry passage planning to do. The options are boundless.

The best way to make a good impression is to set a theme, a concept. Without it, your house becomes a total chaos because of unmatched designs. You don’t want to have an all-over-the-place look, do you? You need a backbone for the over-all look you want to achieve.

Go Western

Western-inspired door designs are usually rustic in nature. Imagine wood, deep cut designs and dark metal studs embossed in the surface. Not only will you have the chance to take your guests to another continent, but you will also be taking him or her to another era. Western designs are fascinated with enormous and royal sizes. They elicit a sense of protection making your home look like a safe place to live in. Take inspiration from war historical-fiction films showing off entrance passageways one literally looks up to.

Go Oriental

Now, if you want minimalist, yet trendy doors, perhaps you could go oriental. Asian art is mostly characterized by an enthrallment to parallelism, geometry and light. Basic architecture is applied with so much ease and class. The orient is a perfect reflection of the famous proverb, “Simplicity is beauty.” It reflects culture and tradition as well. And because some Asian countries are tropical in nature, some designs aim to bring in light and air into your home as well. With such designs, you may be able to take Japan or Korea to Virginia. Very convenient, I have to say!

Go African

Another culture-oriented door design you can go for are those inspired by African-roots. This may be less popular than Oriental designs, but it is definitely unique and exotic. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, think of prints, relief structure, tribes, bohemians, and rituals culturally mixed altogether. African designs are mostly appreciated by artists who have eyes for deviance and beauty. Take your pick!
