Everyone loves their dog or they would not be a dog owner. However, sometimes not everyone shares in the same love and they may find your free spirit with your dog disrespectful, annoying, and obnoxious. Dogs are just like children, they will get excited and misbehave, and sometimes you have to treat them as you would a child to be respectful to your guests or hosts.

Visiting Family or Friends

If you tend to take your dog with you wherever you go, you probably usually take him or her with you to visit friends and family. Here are some tips before you bring your dogs with you to visit friends or family whether it is for a few hours or days.

- Not everyone is a dog person.

Even though you may feel that they will not mind, they just might not want a pet in their home. Some people are not as accepting of pets as you are so you will have to respect that in their home.

- Respect your host's home.

It may be okay with you if your dog chews up the couch, table chair or takes a bathroom break behind the television. Someone else will probably not find this acceptable and will become very upset ...
... with your dog and you that you allowed this to happen.

- Keep your dog contained, if needed.

If you have an hyperactive pup, you may need to either place him on a leash or bring a kennel with you. A hyper pup can be annoying and frustrating when your host is trying to visit with you.

- Ask where to take your dog to use the bathroom and clean up.

Be mindful of not only your host's home but also the property. Before you allow your puppy to use the bathroom on the nice green lawn, ask where to take him. If your pup poops, make sure you have some plastic bags to pick it up. No one, especially someone without a pet, wants to pick up after you pooch's mess.

- Do not allow your pooch to sleep on the bed.

This is fine in your own home but not in someone else's home. Many people do not understand the connection you have with your pet and do not want fur on their furniture. Make sure to bring a nice bed for your pup to sleep on the floor.

- Do not allow your pup on furniture.

Not only beds but all furniture such as couches and chairs. Especially if they have leather or even fabric where pulled threads could be possible.

- Most importantly, ASK before you bring your pet.

You can keep yourself a friend and keep your family happy if you just ask if it's okay to bring your dog with you to visit. Try not to get upset if they say that would rather you not bring him with you. Just decide whether you still want to visit and then make other arrangements.
