The granite is prone to stains. There are a number of reasons responsible for staining. These are listed below: graffiti, salt crystallization, corroded steel or iron with the building, bird droppings and when granite is run off from bronze or any other metal sculpture. These stains can be removed, but the method of removing will be different and depend on the type of stains.
Efflorescence
It is the appearance of whitish deposit on the upper layer of the granite. The soluble salts get settled on the surface. These soluble salts arise due to various reasons like improper cleaning agents, mortar, de-icing salts, rising damps and air pollution. Efflorescence can be a salt residue that arises due to improper cleaning. It is a clear sign of water problems. However, it should be considered serious and thorough inspection is required as to find out the correct reason so that it can be rectified by taking corrective actions.
