Business cards are commonly kept by people who want to provide their information to all especially relating to their job or business activity as well as their social worth. The business cards can be used for formal introductions and are also used to provide your unseen introduction during the process of getting appointment from a person of importance. Business cards also act as memory aids as people can easily keep a record of you, your business and contact detail. Usually a business card includes the person’s name, company name and contact information of all sorts whether postal or electronic. In old days, business cards were made by simply printing black text on white stock paper. These days many fabulous designs are available for designing of a business card.

Business cards are still usually printed on different types of card stock. There are many kinds of visual effects as well as printing techniques for making good business cards. There are also some other detail on the card which either has a cultural value or they are based on personal preference. Card stocks are usually separated from each other on the basis ...
... of weight of the sheets. Usual business card stock has a density of 350 g/m², 100 lb weight and 12 point thickness. Some high quality business cards are printed using spot colors. This is done by feeding sheets to printing presses. Some companies take card making so seriously that they have their trademark card colors such as UPS brown. If there are two basic colors used then the process is termed as two colors. Batch printing makes them less costly than the fully colored business cards.

Another famous effect in card printing is to use a raised print effect as it is much less expensive and looks beautiful. It is done by using cheap engraved plates that use a plastic powder which sticks to the wet ink thus slightly raising the height of the writing giving it a raised look. The cards are passed through a heater which seals the plastic on the card. UV varnish can also be used over writing to produce the same effect of raised printing.

There are then also full color cards that are printed using sheet fed mechanisms of different colors. Usually there are four colors used which in turn is commonly called the four color printing process. This is also known as CMYK or Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black color printing. This process can be used to create a wide array of colors. There is a problem however that mixed colors will have very tiny dots although spot colors are solid printed. Spot colors are used for line art or non black color use that is smaller than 5 points in thickness. There are some common terminologies used in color card printing. These terminologies are known as 4 over zero, 4 over 1 and 4 over 4 methods. These methods refer to full front color without any back color, full front color with a single backside color or the third method referring to full front and back colors.
