Wireless network connectivity problems are the ones that are faced by almost all PC users whether it is a desktop or laptop user. In case the Windows operating system (OS) tells you about a weak Wi-Fi signal then it means that the network connection is not as good as it should be. The worst happens when you start losing connectivity within certain areas of your home. If you are facing such types of network connectivity problems then the below discussed tips can help you improve the network connectivity (WLAN). If applied in an appropriate manner, these tips can improve the wireless speed and performance significantly.

Try to place your wireless router, modem or access point in a central location

This is the most helpful tip if you are facing weak Wi-Fi connectivity on your PC. It is recommended to place your wireless router, wireless modem router or wireless access point (WAP) all in a central location in your home to improve network connectivity. According to experts, if the router (wireless/modem) or access point has been placed against an outside wall of your home, then the signal is likely to be weaker than ...
... on the other side of your home. Moreover, if the router has been placed on the first floor and the PC is on the second floor then you are recommended to place the router high on a shelf to improve connectivity.

Place the router off the floor and at a distance from walls and metal objects

You should not place the router close to metal objects, walls and floors as these objects tend to interfere with the wireless signals moving towards the router. If you place the router closer to these objects, then the signal is likely to get weaker and it finally affects connectivity.

Change the antenna of your router

You get omni-directional antennas with your router so that signals received by router are broadcast in all directions without any obstruction. Issues start cropping up in case you have placed the router near an outside wall that allows signals to go outside and thus most of the router's power goes in vain. However, routers don’t allow you to increase the power output but still you can make better use of the power by replacing the antenna. You can switch to a high-gain antenna by opting for a removable antenna for your router so that it projects wireless signals in one direction only.

Replace the wireless PC card-based network adapter of your laptop

This tip is not applicable if you have a laptop with built-in wireless networking capability as such machines have powerful antennas that don’t require their network adapters to be upgraded. For the smooth flow of wireless network signals it is important that it is sent both to and from your PC. In some cases, although the router broadcasts strongly to the PC but the PC doesn’t send signals to the router. It weakens the network signals and users face issues related to wireless network connectivity. This can be resolved by replacing the wireless network adapter of your PC.

Deploy a wireless repeater

Wireless repeater is an equipment which is deployed to extend your wireless network range without wiring. You need to place the equipment between your wireless router, modem router or access point and your PC. After using the wireless repeater you will surely notice an instant improvement in the strength of wireless signals.

By implementing the above discussed tips you can significantly improve the quality of wireless network signals. However these tips are tested still you can try more tips for best quality wireless connectivity.
