Get Your Shop In Tip Top Condition With These Decorating Tips
Decorating a shop is, in a way, like decorating a home. It should represent you and what you do, so that when a customer walks in, they know that you are what they're looking for. There are five areas you should focus on when decorating your shop.
1. Lighting
Lighting has the power to affect the mood in a room, perhaps even more than colour. Bright lights are usually helpful in a shop so that people can see what they're doing and read product information properly, but in some cases it might be better to go for some dimmer mood lighting using lamps or lanterns. You can also think about using coloured lights to affect the atmosphere in your shop.
2. Walls
This is where your artistic talent comes in. Painting your walls is probably the simplest and cheapest way to decorate, and you can customise it using stencils to create your own designs, but sometimes wallpaper can look more sophisticated and stylish. A combination of the two is a creative idea, but it's important to think about the kind of mood your walls are setting. Colour is an important factor. Blues, whites and greys are all smart, business-like ...
... colours, whilst browns, reds and oranges can help to create a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Think carefully about what statement you are trying to make about your shop.
3. Floors
Choose a floor which is durable and will last with customers walking over it all day. Wooden floors can look stylish, whilst carpeted floors are comfy and welcoming (but watch out when using carpet if spillages are likely to occur.) How do you want your customers to feel when they enter your shop? And how much work do you want to put on the cleaners?
4. Accessories and furnishings
Display your stock in ways which will draw the customer's eye and compliment your overall décor. You're aiming to attract more customers, so use business card holders to encourage customers to return and to recommend you to others. If you've got a special offer on, sign holders will allow you to alert customers in a neat, tidy way, but don't litter your store with sign holders, because this will defeat the point. Make sure sign and business card holders are displayed in places where they will be easily seen. You also need to think about the happiness of your customers. Use seating areas to give them somewhere to rest and make their visit more pleasant with decorations such as wall art.
5. Outside
Don't forget to make sure the outside of your shop looks just as appealing as the inside! This is what is going to draw your customers in, and if your exterior isn't looking up to scratch, a lot of customers aren't going to bother going inside, no matter how impressive your interior may be. A lick of paint and a window display is enough to make your shop look presentable, but you can always be more creative.
