Location and Climate:
The beautiful city of Agra is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. It has a humid sub-tropical climate. The city features mild winters, hot and dry summers and a monsoon season.

The famous monuments in Agra are Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Itmad-ud-daulah's Tomb, Sikandra, Dayal Bagh, etc. Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Taj Mahal beautifully represents the rich culture of India and its heritage. This 42-acre marble mausoleum was built during Mughal dynasty by Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal Emperor. Sikandra is the mausoleum of Akbar the great. Sikandra is named after Sikandar lodi, the Delhi ruler who was in power from 1488 to 1517. These monuments take one back to the Mughal era making one feel its grandiose culture.
Itmad-ud-daula has a special place in the chronicles of both history as well as architecture. This mausoleum overlooks the River Yamuna and is a tomb of Mir Ghiyas Beg, a minister in the court of Shah Jahan. This is the first tomb to be built in white marble instead of red sandstone. It marks the departure from the red sandstone buildings of Mughal architecture.
Chausat khambha, Roman Catholic Cemetery, Chini ka Rauza, Mariam's Tomb, Chhatri of Raja Jaswant Singh are the other monuments of Agra which has a historic importance. Dayal Bagh is located towards the north of Agra city. The place is one of the many tourist destinations in Agra and is sacred to the followers of Radha Swami. It holds the place where the last rites of Swamiji Maharaj were performed.
Fatehpur Sikri is a fascinating ghost city built in the 16th century, 37 km from Agra and is one of the finest examples of Mughal architectural splendor at its height. It was built between 1569 and 1585 and was intended to be the joint capital with Agra, but was soon deserted because the poor water system. The Panch Mahal ranks among the most fascinating buildings in Fatehpur Sikri. It is a five-storey building which was meant to be the shelter of the royal ladies and mistresses. The tomb of renowned Sufi saint Salim Chisti, well known for its delicate carvings is located here. Buland Darwaza is an enormous gateway with a height of 54 meters and is largest gateway in the world. Information about these beautiful and royal historic monuments are available easily but it can never replace the experience of seeing it without your naked eye.
