If you're a copywriter who'd like to have an almost endless flow of fresh, hot ideas coming to you whenever you want, on "command" -- while completely eliminating "writers block" forever -- then this article will show you how.
Check this out:
The late success coach, Earl Nightingale, used to document how billions of dollars in sales -- in industries all over the world -- are most usually the result of one, measly little idea someone had.
In fact, Earl had seen hundreds -- maybe even thousands -- of people go from "rags to riches" simply by focusing on generating new ideas. And he used to say that if you come up with just one new idea per day, then your success is almost guaranteed.
He was so passionate about this, he even had a "system" to come up with just one new idea per day that went like this:
He said to simply sit down alone in a quiet room every day (weekends optional) for an hour and just start thinking, and then write down any and all ideas that come to you -- good, bad, or ugly.
Doing this, he said, would give you so many hot, profitable ideas, you almost can't lose. I mean, think ...
... about it: Just one idea per day equals 365 ideas per year. If you take the weekends off, you will still have 260 new ideas per year. Ideas you probably never would have come up with otherwise.
Earl said this was probably one of the greatest success secrets he had ever used.
And I agree. Sort of.
You see, as much as I respect Earl Nightingale and his ingenious idea-generating system, I don't think it's practical anymore.
Why?
Because in today's day and age, when everything is "go! go! go!" -- and our nervous systems are completely overtaxed by life's daily grind -- it's all but impossible for must of us to sit still for an hour every day and just think.
I know I'd probably go nuts doing this. And so, a few year back, I invented my own little "play" on Earl's way of getting ideas that's not only highly practical...but also extremely fun.
Plus, if you do this -- and I mean really do it, exactly as I lay out -- you should never again have to worry about "writers block" or running out of ideas. In fact, you'll have so many ideas, you'll have to start a file to store them in for later.
Anyway, here's how my system works:
Basically, I have this old Nintendo entertainment system (NES), and I budget a half-hour to an hour per day -- at least five days per week -- to play it.
I also have a pen, a pad of paper and something relevant to whatever project I'm working on playing in the stereo. For example, right now I'm working on an ad for an info product that's basically 13 audio CD's. And I always have one of those CD's going while I'm playing one of the games.
Now, two powerful things happen every time I do this:
1.) The constant repetition of listening to something over and over and over lets me completely internalize whatever I'm learning about.
2.) And, even more important, all kinds of different ideas, themes, strategies and even whole snatches of copy I can use in the promotion come to me out of nowhere. I've actually gotten some extremely profitable ideas while doing this.
And realize this:
While it sounds like I'm advising you to slack off playing video games, your subconscious mind is actually working very hard.
It's like the legendary copywriter Eugene Schwartz said in his famous speech to Phillips Publishing: the whole key is to do something -- anything -- that keeps your conscious mind focused, so you can let all the ideas swimming around in your subconscious mind slip through the cracks.
And when you play video games (specifically "role playing" games that make you think and strategize) like this, 9 times out of 10 you're going to have ideas and solutions you never would have thought of before fall right into your lap.
Try it yourself and see.
I think you'll be quite surprised at how much easier creating advertising gets for you.
