Okay, for you curious minded people there is no big rumor. Rather, some outlandish assumptions circling the HGTV Sweepstakes.

You can find some of the biggest Sweepstakes from “The Scripps Network”. Most people have never heard of them but you have most likely heard of their shows they produce. They include the Fine Living Network, HGTV, The DIY Network and The Food Network and others. With all good things unfortunately there are times that bad things sometimes follow. However, wither you are entering a well known Sweepstakes like the HGTV Sweepstakes or not, make sure you get your facts straight.

Here is a comment from a lady in South Carolina and her latest dealings with a HGTV Sweepstakes. She had entered several Sweepstakes along with an HGTV Sweepstakes. She was lead to believe her information had been sold from the HGTV Sweepstakes. After entering she started to receive several phone calls through out the day from varies vendors. She also stated that she had been a target of two scams as well. The first, she received a call telling her that the government wanted to give ...
... her tax free 10,000 dollars and they needed her credit card or checking account number to receive the money and second: She had received a check for "Secret Shopper " for $1278.48. Her assignment was to deposit this check into her checking account and proceed to Western Union and send the money to varies destinations.

Her complaint was, it is a shame for the HGTV Sweepstakes to lend they"re name or to be associated with these kinds of practices in any way. It is a negative mark! We are not the "know all" when it comes to Sweepstakes but from experience we can tell you this. First of all, the lady said she entered other Sweepstakes. How does she know it was the HGTV Sweepstakes who sold or gave away her information? She obviously enters several Sweepstakes and Contests. She assumed that since the calls started coming in on the day she had entered the HGTV Sweepstakes that “They” were the ones who gave or sold her information to a third party. That is ridiculous. Period.

Here is another comment from someone who has watched HGTV for along time and had entered the HGTV Sweepstakes. They now believe they are fixed after reading the rules and came up with this: The Dream Home Giveaway states not only can you enter online, but you can enter by sending physical mail (Snail Mail)? There is no way that someone is going to enter all those paper entries into a computer system somewhere, they say. They are only giving away one home. So do they pick someone randomly online, or do they go to their pile of mail and draw someone from there! The participant also believes the whole idea of making someone think they have a chance to win is ridiculous. They only want your email address so that they can send you a bunch of advertisements? There should be regulations to stop these type of contests or they should have to show that they are legit and not fixed'.

Everyone needs to know that with Sweepstakes, Contests and even with many Giveaways that these prizes are not given away just to be kind.

The comments mentioned above are right about one thing, it is about advertising. The HGTV Sweepstakes or any others is not just about giving away something. The HGTV Sweepstakes is about name branding as in getting their name out so everyone will watch their network. At the same time they can build up a mailing list with your information to keep you informed on whats happening with their network. The HGTV Sweepstakes is a way to entice you to keep watching and keep coming back.

Even though their shows do well you can never have to much of your brand name out there. The HGTV Sweepstakes like any other legitimate Sweepstakes will state in their rules regarding the handling of your information they get from you. In regards to the mail-in comment above can you say “Intern” Yes it is possible that every entry could be entered into a computer. We will also bet that if they read the rules again they would see how the winner is picked. If the HGTV Sweepstakes only wants to get email addresses out of giving away a new house then that's their business.

A little FYI on Mail-In entries. The HGTV Sweepstakes supposidly picks the finalist from a Mail-In Entry and a Internet Entry to make it fair.

So Mail-In at least few of your HGTV Sweepstakes entry forms. Do not hold back and make your HGTV Sweepstakes Mail-In entry stand out. Others who enter the HGTV Sweepstakes like yourself might think it is not worth it but it's possible. From colorful sequins to stripes let your evelope scream "PICK ME!".

When you enter a Sweepstakes like the HGTV Sweepstakes or any others just know you are one of many others who are sharing their information in exchange for a chance to win a prize. Like life, there are NO GAURANTEE'S. Will your information be given away or sold? It could be? That is why never give out your personal email address. Get a Gmail or Yahoo one just for entering Sweepstakes and Contests. They are free. You DO want to give a legitimate phone number but never your home phone number. On the other hand, do you want your cell phone to be bombarded by telemarketers in case they sell or give your number away? Having at least some sort of voice mail set up is a good idea. That way they can contact you when you win by either email or phone. For only $2 a month you can get your own number and voice mail box. We have used Kall8 http://www.kall8.com/ in the past and they are great to work with.

Protect yourself and take heed to our suggestions. Is giving away some of your personal information that most people get anyway worth a new house or car?
