Awe Inspiring U.s. Boardwalks
Given the ready supply of cheap travel deals, including cheap fares, cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, cheap auto rentals, discount travel packages, and cheap vacation packages, you might consider taking your next vacation at one of America’s many awesome boardwalks.
If a vacation that includes a roller coaster, funnel cakes, and Whac-A-Mole sounds appealing, the following boardwalks are worth considering, according to Budget Travel:
• Navy Pier in Chicago is located along Lake Michigan in the Windy City and has a 150 foot high Ferris wheel, a carousel, wave swinger, mini golf, and remote control boats in season.
• New Jersey’s Atlantic City’s historic boardwalk was originally built in the 19th century to prevent sand from blowing off the beach onto the area’s ritzy hotels. Among its many current attractions are the thriving amusement park at Steel Pier and performing arts at its Garden Pier.
• Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York is home to the revitalized Luna Park amusement park. The Sling Shot is one of its most popular rides, throwing riders up in the air and then letting ...
... them freefall back down. Its Cyclone roller coaster is considered one of the most terrifying around, and its Wonder Wheel is probably the best known Ferris wheel in America.
• Santa Monica Pier in California is home to an impressive Ferris wheel at Pacific Park. It is located so close to the water that riders tend to feel as if the wheel is going to dip them in the Pacific. Gentler rides include its magnificently carved and painted carousel.
• Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was opened four years ago, but gives the impression of having been there forever. It features the Family Kingdom amusement park that includes the massive Skywheel and Slingshot as well as the new Twist ‘n Shout steel roller coaster.
• Ocean City Boardwalk in Maryland sports a carousel introduced in 1902, free boardwalk entertainment, and a classic vibe of a relaxed beach town.
• Venice Beach Boardwalk in California is where tourists often find blue hair, candy apple red lipstick, and the scent of pot smoke. What makes this boardwalk so unforgettable is its surprising, creative folks who visit daily to make political statements, perform stunts, or just be their unique selves.
• Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk in Delaware is one of the more relaxing boardwalks. Instead of being huge, glitzy, or loaded with scary rides, this boardwalk exudes a quiet, family friendly charm. Don’t worry; there are still rides and treats for the kids.
• Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in California is home to a thrilling coaster ride. The boardwalk is famous for its vibrant party scene, fast paced rides, and tasty funnel cakes. It is a mere 90 minute drive from San Francisco and home to barking sea lions, some of the world’s best surfing with redwood forests only a short ride up in the mountains.
• Old Orchard Beach Boardwalk in Maine has a full blown amusement park, Palace Playland, right next to the ocean. There are plenty of easy rides for young children, family friendly water rides, as well as crazy adrenaline filled rides.
• Wildwood Boardwalk in New Jersey offers a great beach as well as rides that will set your nerves on end.
• Virginia Beach Boardwalk offers an impressive stretch of sand and attractions as well as dolphins right off the shore.
• Disney World Boardwalk in Florida has no ocean in sight but offers fun family experiences for guests that rival any other boardwalk.
• Kemah Boardwalk in Texas is on the Gulf Coast just 20 miles from downtown Houston. It has expanded from a popular dining spot to a complete family travel destination.
• Mission Beach Boardwalk in San Diego, California is one of San Diego’s sweetest spots and must be checked out if you are in the area.
• Carolina Beach Boardwalk in North Carolina is located on Pleasure Island. Among its many attributes are its mild breezes, a beautiful beach, and great hospitality, making this boardwalk a family favorite.
• Hampton Beach Boardwalk in New Hampshire is ideal for relaxing, shopping, and just letting time slip easily through your fingers.
• Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in Point Pleasant, New Jersey has a great retro charm. Tourists are encouraged to walk the boardwalk early in the morning just as shops open to beat the crowds.
• Sandwich Boardwalk in Massachusetts is not a gift/ride tourist driven boardwalk. Instead it is a place for strolling, taking in the fresh air, enjoying the beautiful sky and water that has made Cape Cod famous.
