You should pack many pairs of quick drying underwear or travel underwear which is designed to be washed in standard sinks and dried overnight. You can get by for days with underwear you can wash clean in the sink even if you cannot wash all of your clothes. Unlike someone traveling on business who will have a hotel room and full services to use you must carry everything you will require on your person during backpacker travel. Some hostels offer limited services like towels and you can buy some toiletries on the road but it is better to come prepared in case nothing is offered—especially if you are planning on staying in tents or going on long hikes. Always carry a towel and soap. Bring a clothes line so that you can dry your laundry. Bring a padlock to secure your items in hostels and while traveling. Bring linens.
