5 Great Punk Rock Percussionists Of The Past 10 Years.-00-631

At the start of the list is a comparatively recent drummer, a number of people could disagree that he isn't truly a punk drummer and more of a heavy metal one but I differ, true he's partial to calm it down and do some doom style fills but at heart he's an out and out punk-
Steve Jocz -AKA "Stevo"
Born July 23, 1981. Steve is most identified for his percussionist in the Canadian punk group Sum 41. An exceedingly quick and tight drummer, he can change the tone of a song immediately. One of the few punk rock drummers that can sneak in cheesy metal fills and get away with it. He is also notorious for his lavatory comedy which is a sure indication of punk maturity/immaturity- you decide!
Tré Cool (real name Frank Edwin Wright III)
Born December 9, 1972. He is part of the original (pretty much) 3 piece that make up Green Day. Swaying much closer to the pop side of punk as a drummer, Tré definitely aided Green Day achieve the world audience that propelled them to megastars. If he been yet an extra, high speed, unoriginal drummer the group would have struggled to interest such a considerable market.

... Josh Freese
Born on December 25, 1972. Josh is most identified for his percussionist in The Vandals but is able to list countless other bands and achievements. A high speed drummer capable of slowing it right down and merge with the finest and has performed for Guns N' Roses, Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson as if to prove the point. Josh's solo works can also show a slower, more refrained drumming technique showing that speed isn't the lot however for my part I prefer the Vandals sound.
Travis Barker
Born 14/11/1975. Arguably most identified for his percussionist in Blink 182 he's also drummed for countless other bands. Travis comes in at number 2 not only because of his wonderful speed and timing but also because of his expansive range of techniques from Hip-hop to Punk, Pop to even Country.
Erik Sandin-AKA "Smelly"
Born on July 29, 1966. Sandin is the stable drummer for NOFX. Sandin was a founder part of the group but departed two years after in 1983. In 1986 he was convinced to re-unite with the group but suffered from heroin dependence till 1992 when thankfully he booked into a rehabilitation centre and has been off the drugs constantly since. Erik might not be the top of many people's list, for anybody who likes the flawlessness of NOFX then there is no challenge.

Even though Nicky has grown up and uses his hours consulting for http://www.callanswering.org.uk/telephone_answering_service.php services, he continues to be a giant supporter of punk. Unfortunately his hair's a fair bit more sane nowadays too.
