Located at the end of Thar Desert the city of Jodhpur was once the capital of Marwar State. It was founded in 1459AD by Rao Jodha. A major trade centre the city is dotted with exquisite palaces, forts and temples which makes it a favorite tourist destination of the Jodhpur honeymoon packages. 1. Mehrangarh Fort - One of the largest forts popular for its beauty and grandeur this fort was built by Rao Jodha in 1459 when he shifted his capital from Mandore. Made out of bluff colored sandstone this fort lies 400ft above the city having 68ft wide and 117ft high walls. The fort comprises of a number of palaces namely – Moti Mahal, Chandan Mahal, Darbar Takhat or Throne Room, Rang Mahal and Umaid Vilas all of which are a part of Meherangarh museum now. The fort is surrounded by a series of gateways situated at an angle to prevent the invasion of armies.

The construction of this palace went on for 16 years and nearly one crore twenty one lac rupees was spent after the construction. The clock museum, theatre, underground hospital, central hall, swimming pool, dancing hall and grand lawns inside the fort are worth seeing.

Jaswant Thada - Built in the year 1899 by Sardar Singh it is a white marble cenotaph built in the memory of Jaswant Singh II is a popular tourist attractions included in Jodhpur honeymoon packages. Carved gazebos, a beautiful multi-tiered garden, a small lake, a royal crematorium and three other cenotaphs form a part of Jaswant Thada.

Balsamand Lake - Constructed in 1159AD by Balak Rao Parihar this artificial lake having a depth of 15 m, length of 1 km, and breadth of 50 m. was once a water reservoir that supplied water to Mandore. The lake is located amidst green garden where you will find groves of trees like mango, papaya, pomegranate, guava and plum and a variety of animals and birds like jackal and peacock. It is a popular sight seeing place included in Jodhpur honeymoon packages.

5. Guda Bishnoi Village - Laying at a distance of 25km from Jodhpur city it is a tribal village which is home black bucks, antelopes, chinkaras, peacocks and cranes. The tribals of this village are worshippers of Lord Vishnu and lead a vegetarian lifestyle. They also worship gazellas and chinkaras. You will also find here a range of Khejri tree plantations.

6. Nehru Park - Spread over an area of 14 acres this children’s park was founded in 1966 by the then Chief Minister Shri Mohan Lal Sukhadia. Inside the park complex there are many fountains, ponds, swings, flowerbeds, trees and plants.

7. Jaswant Sagar Dam - Located in Pichiyak Village laying between Bilara and Bhavi of Jodhpur District it was in the year 1892 this dam by Maharaja Jaswant Singh to supply irrigation water to the region. Tourists visiting this lake can enjoy here activities like boating and wading around in water.
