All India Council For Technical Education (aicte)
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 based on the recommendations made by CABE to drive and manage the provisions of educational facilities and cater to the needs for industrial development. The mandate of AICTE in its beginning times was primarily for the Engineering and Technology related programs.
In past 30 years, the growth of technical education has been phenomenal due to the efforts and initiatives taken in the form of successive Five Year Plans and policy changes in the eighties that allowed private and voluntary organizations to participate in setting up the technical institutions based on self-financing.
In 1987, the AICTE Act was passed by the parliament, which resulted into the establishment of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Following are the norms that are followed by AICTE:
• Transparent and accountable governance in the approach towards society
• Planned and coordinated growth of technical education by creating and maintaining world-class institutional standards through accreditation.
• Facilitating world-class technical education by developing intuitions of high quality education, fostering academic excellence and innovative research and development programs, and enabling networking among the educational institutions for optimum utilization of resources.
• Knowledge expansion and dissemination
• Forecasting and planning of technology and global manpower
• Development of new patents, products and services by promoting interaction between the industry and educational institutions.
• Encouraging entrepreneurship
• Promotion of indigenous technology
• Emphasis on non-formal educational methods
• Making education affordable to all
• Raising the standards of Indian technical education to make it globally acceptable
The Headquarters of AICTE are situated in New Delhi and is presently housed in a building having a covered area of 12187 sq. ft. located on 7th Floor, Chanderlok Building, Janpath.
The AICTE comprises of eight Departments, namely:
• Administration (Admin) Bureau
• Academic (Acad.) Bureau
• Engineering & Technology (E&T) Bureau
• Finance (Fin) Bureau
• Management & Technology (M&T) Bureau
• Planning and Co-ordination (PC) Bureau
• Quality Assurance (QA) Bureau
• Research and Institutional Development (R&D) Bureau
Adviser is the Bureau Head for each Bureau, and is assisted by technical officers and other supporting staff. The multidiscipline technical officers and staff of the Council are on deputation or on contract from various Government Departments, University Grants Commission, academic institutions etc.
