The Imperial Schrade company is the final merger of five different knife companies which came together to make Imperial Schrade. These companies included the Imperial Knife Company and Schrade Cutlery Company. The company has since then closed shops and does not produce knives anymore. Their license was bought by a company named Taylor Brands, who use it for marketing and are now responsible for their product line.

The Imperial Schrade Company was formed by Italian immigrants who worked in the steel and metal making business. The initial business set up was in Rhode Island in order to recruit workers and gain experience from the nearby jewelry industry. Once both Imperial Knife Company and Schrade cutlery merged, they began producing specifically for the military and the tool market. In 2004 the company closed its operation and its product line is now produced abroad under the control of Taylor Brands LLC.
