The Uses Of Music Recording Studios
Music recording studios are basically a room for sound recording and mixing and will often be run by a producer who will control the sound desks to record well and create the best possible audio result. All genres of bands and solo artists, including both up and coming and professional, often book studios to write songs, throw around ideas for new tracks, and to record, perhaps for their next single or album. A studio will usually have an isolation booth, which is a separate soundproofed room that will be ideal for loud instruments such as electric guitar or drums, in order to keep these sounds from being picked up by other microphones recording other instruments. They can also be used for recording vocals and quieter acoustic sounds for a much clearer result.
All sorts of equipment can be found in a studio, such as a keyboard, acoustic drum kit, reference monitors, microphones, mixing console and a multitrack recorder. Some may also have a music workstation, digital audio workstation, On Air and Recording Light, and outboard effects like reverbs, equalizers, and compressors. Some studios have really expensive kit and ...
... can be pricier to hire, while others are a little more basic and affordable. In London especially, studios tend to be quite expensive, as there is a higher demand for them in this city where the majority of the UK’s music and entertainment industries reside.
Some recording studios are also music rehearsal studios or have a separate space for band practices. These are ideal as practising at home is not often a good idea, especially with limited room for all the members and equipment, as well as the fact that neighbours may complain due to the loud noise. Many studios also have the instruments that you need, such as a drum kit and microphones, meaning you do not need to transport all of the kit to the location, making it quicker, cheaper and easier to arrange. Bands and artists need to regularly practise with their band members in order to ensure that their performance is tight for their live gigs and even for recording albums and singles.
Some of these studios are also used for dance rehearsals. The larger ones are obviously much better for this as you will need a lot of room to move around. If you can be flexible on location, then studios outside of London, or at least outside of central London, will often be cheaper, so you can save some extra money when booking one out. Use the internet to compare prices or ask other bands to suggest any good music rehearsal studios that they may also use themselves.
