Before finalizing the doctor for your hair transplant, get checked few “must know facts” about the doctor and the team.

1) What is the experience of the doctor and the team?

The prospective patients of hair transplant must check and cross check the experience and expertise of the team. A neophyte doctor with less trained team cannot produce the results that people expect from hair transplant. After doing more than 3000 cases of hair transplant we came to understand that it needs minimum of 200 cases to be done by the team to produce cosmetically acceptable results and meet the demands of the patients. Baring few centres in India, most of the centres boast themselves on the basis of hired technicians. Many of the centres does not know the basics of hair transplant but put boards and give big advertisements of hair transplants. These advertisements attract the needy patients. These centres purely depend upon the greedy, non-medical technicians whose job is not regulated by the doctor, who himself is not trained properly and does not have the expertise.

Sometimes the neophyte doctors even charges very ...
... low to attract the patients, just to have cases to increase their experience. The common sense says, if the cost is extremely low and not competitive then we should doubt the quality. If the doctors are not involved in the surgery or are getting trained in that case then also the prices can be alarmingly low.

Since hair transplant promises a lot of money a lot of teams are jumping into it on the back of the hired technicians. These technicians assure the doctors that they will produce amazing results, because they are trained under so and so big doctors. Here we warn our patients that they should know the details of the team, expertise level and whether his surgery will be doctor led or technician led. The non-medical technicians can never match the doctor and the results are mostly disastrous.

2) How many grafts the team can plant in a day?

Sometimes the patients need 4000-5000 roots for a “look change” hair transplant. Only a highly experienced team can plant these many roots.

The less experienced teams cannot harvest so many roots. A neophyte team can harvest maximum of 1200-1500 roots in a day and plant them. But an experienced team can go up to 2500-3500 roots in a day. If the instruments are super sharp like Cole punches then the number can be even more. At this point the neophyte teams explain to the patients that the patient does not require more than 1500 roots even though they need at least 3000-4000 roots for the look change. This is because they cannot harvest that much due to their in-expertise to do so.

3) National and International presence of the team.

The patients should also know the academic background of the doctors. Whether the doctors are attending the national and international conferences related to hair transplant. Whether the doctors are presenting their cases and participating in the knowledge sharing meetings. Doctors not attending the conferences and meetings cannot produce good results because of lack of the latest developments of the field.

So, we suggest our patients to survey in details about the doctors, team, technology, price and above all the credibility of the team before finalising the centre for his hair transplant.
