Each type of job has its own connotation. For example, the common saying that lawyers are liars often clouds our thinking about them. Truck drivers are not exempted in this stereotyping dilemma. Most truck drivers are often thought of as rugged, disrespectful individuals. Well, these are all misconceptions. No thanks to how media has portrayed drivers, many individuals are hesitant to find a driver job for fear that they may also be included in the same category. The truth is, there are a lot of things that we do not know about driver jobs.

Many people think that truck drivers are low paid individuals who are constantly out in the road. The reality? Many truck drivers make $65,000 to $100,000 yearly and they are home everyday with their families and loved ones. They are average people earning average income. Because of these common stereotyping, there has been a shortage in driver jobs recently, and it seems to increase year after year. Truth is, if an individual has a commercial driving license, it is possible for him to become a truck driver and live with a pretty stable income.

Many individuals also think that ...
... a driver job is not at all glamorous. Well, if we really focus on the literal definition of the term, drivers may not really be glamorous, as they are often seen with normal working clothes. They do not have to wear suits or formal attires like the ones being worn by people working in offices and companies. However, this does not mean that drivers are of a low collar job status. The kind of job that these people have is based on skills, not just posture and appearance. After all, a driver job is a serious responsibility. Not everyone is capable of becoming a good driver having to control a big truck.

Other people also think that you need to graduate with the best education in order to earn more money, more than what a truck driver earns. Again, this is a misconception. As a matter of fact, there are many graduates with college degree who still earn lower compared to the earnings of a driver. There are even some whose salaries are not even half of that of a driver. Again, it all goes to skills. Truck driving needs a person who is skilled enough and quick to decide in various situations which he may face along the road.

One good advantage of driver jobs compared to a regular job is freedom. There is no price for freedom. There is no boss to control a driver’s every action on the road. When the driver is driving, he is the boss of the road, and everything is under his control. Of course, the driver still needs to be responsible when it comes to making decision making. Still, the fact that the driver is given the chance to decide is a good edge over regular jobs where workers are constantly lorded over by employers and managers. Therefore, it is not good to judge a person based on their occupation. There are things that we do not know about them.
