Where Can I Travel In Libya?
Traveling can be interesting only when you realize the fun you've had after visiting a place. Try Libya, a country located in North Africa bordering the Mediterranean sea to the north, Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast and Chad and Niger to the south. Being the fourth largest country in Africa, Libya has a population of 5.7 million people and the official language is Arabic.
Ever tried Libyan cuisine? It is a mixture of Arabic and Mediterranean foods. There is a famous local dish refered to as couscous, which is a boiled cereal (traditionally millet, but now often wheat) used as a base for meat and potatoes. The meat is usually mutton, but chicken is served occasionally.Others include Sherba which is a highly regarded Libyan soup, Bazin, a local speciality of hard paste made from barley, salt and water, dates, oranges, apricots, figs and olive. Bottled mineral water is widely consumed as are various soft drinks available. Fruit juices, particularly orange, can be bought in season from street stalls. Local tap water is not recommended, as it has a slightly brackish taste. Libyan tea is a thick beverage served in ...
... a small glass, often accompanied by mint or peanuts. Regular American and British coffee is available if you ask for Nescafe.
Nightlife in Libya is full of fun and merriment with vast diversity of hanging zones, dance clubs, bars, opera-shows, eating joints and live music bands. Almost every luxurious hotel facilitates entertainment. Magnificent nightlife venues can also be observed mostly in the heart of major cities.
Libya is mostly a desert country and therefore one should be prepared for high temperatures, particularly in the inland. The coastal areas can be equally hot and occasionally humid. The best time to visit Libya is between November and March when daytime temperatures are relatively cool. April to September can be brutal with temperatures ranging 40 degrees Celsius on the coast and 45-50 degrees Celsius in other areas.
If you are wondering of where to stay in Libya, Tripoli, her capital city is offering the best accommodation. You can book a hotel and reservations will be secured for you. There is the Al Mehari shari'a al Fatah which is a large hotel that overlooks the harbour. It has spacious rooms with TV, phone, air conditioning, pool, restaurants and a private doctor. What about the Bab Al Bahar Hotel which is a four story building offering good value, ample rooms with TV, phone, air conditioning and a good view of the sea?
Libya is a fascinating mix of history, culture and desert life. Tripoli is a showcase to the rest of the country. Interesting sights include the old walled city or the Medina, Al Saray Al Hamra Castle, the many bazaars and souks as well as the museums and mosques. The country's Islamic heritage can be seen at Sirt, Darnah and Ajdabiya, and a glimpse of local Libyan life can be observed in the desert cities of Ghadames, Ghat, Fezzan, Ojla, Zuwaylah and Jalu. Many of these places offer excellent desert safaris. For lovers of history, Libya is home to the World Heritage Sites of Cyrene, Sabratah and Leptis Magna.
